Honestly, w/ the commitment of Chris Wells, and a stocked in-state pond next year, plus the plethora of safeties on the team, RB and S are two positions that Tressel can chill on recruiting for this year. Pure CBs like Williams and Chappel are a different story entirely.

Offer this guy NOW! Outside of Small and Campbell, there doesn't seem to be many osu-worthy Ohio Db's, and this guy sounds like a freak!

Let's not join the party late like we seem to do with every other oos player...
There's much more involved in determining whether an offer should be made than merely reviewing some raw data from a workout. Obviously, the staff wants to get a complete "read" on a kid by means of film and camp evaluation, talking with his coaches, talking with the player himself (and his family), and taking "off the field" issues into account (grades, character, work ethic, etc.). In addition, the staff must determine whether the player fits into the team concept (i.e., a team won't recruit an option QB if it runs a pro-style offense) and fills a position of need (why recruit a QB if you already have eight on the roster).

As far as "joining the party late", very few kids place much emphasis on who made the first offer; as you might expect, most players look for the best offer (as determined by that player), regardless of when made.

As far as missing out on OOS recruits - by nature, any school's hit ratio with OOS players will be quite low, as many kids want to stay close to home or play for the hometown favorite. In any given year, OSU will land about 10% to 20% of the OOS offerees - not a good percentage, but enough to round out a class that will always be largely comprised of home-grown talent. This year, the percentage of in-state signees could be exceptionally high, as there are quite possibly 20+ Ohioans who could eventually receive an offer from Ohio State. If a normal percentage (say 80%) of those offerees actually accepted the OSU offer, then as many as 16 players would be in-state, leaving very few schollies open for OOS players. So, don't get too worked up if Ohio State "misses" on a lot of OOS players this year.

You can never have too many Db's...especially freaks like this guy!

This guy was the top cb at this camp...clearly better than Chappell who apparently wasn't very good at all. He is arguably faster than last years top corner (King) and judging by all the praise he is getting, he did more than just run fast.

I'm guessing he got himself a lot more offers after this weekend, and probably won't have to come to camp at OSU unless he really wants an offer (and he grew up a scUM fan).

I'm certainly not going to tell Jim Tressel how to recruit, but w/ our somewhat smaller scholly #'s this year, I don't think recruiting more RBs or safeties needs to be a priority,IMO. Amos, O'Neal, Washington, Jenkins- 3 of the 4 could play CB, or they could wind up at S, WR-in Amos' case. Washington is almost definitely a safety. Again, this kid sounds like a stud, but I don't think the staff is screwing up by not offering him a scholly immediately.
IMO, you can have too many safeties, but never enough stud CBs.

Who says he has to be a safety? If he has the hips, he can definitely play corner at that speed.

By Sam Webb Columnist/Photographer
Date: May 9, 2005

Indiana athlete Steve Brown turned in an outstanding performance at Saturday's Nike Camp in Ann Arbor. Though his offer list is sure to climb in the aftermath, three schools stick out for him at this point.

Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Notre Dame, and Nebraska have already offered Brown. Ohio State is recruiting him as a running back, but he says he would like to play safety in college.
Michigan, Purdue and Notre Dame are his top three schools at this point.
