Most insiders consider McCarthy a Buckeye lean, most likely will come down to Ohio state vs Miami(FL)...he is scheduled for an official visit to Miami(FL) this weekend.....

12/18/05 McCarthy enjoyed his visit to Miami(FL), Georgia Tech, Ohio State and Miami(FL) are his final three. He claims no leader. He did stat that he really liked it at Ohio State but Georgia Tech and Miami were great also. He will decide after his upcoming all-star game in California. |

I question the wisdom of McCarthy delaying his decision (or perhaps I should say the public announcement of the decision) until after the all star game. IIRC he is through with his visits and has plenty of time to mull it over prior to that game. If I were his dad, I would encourage him to make an announcement prior to the game to "lock in" the school of choice. There is always the chance of an injury and while a school wouldn't be legally bound by a verbal, most of the big time schools will honor the offer and verbal even if a kid gets injured.

In regards to the Cali-Florida Bowl. I see tha above post and link that shows the game being played in Fla. on January 14th, but could there be another? McCarthy's update quotes him,"I'm going to California for the All-Star game." Then on TheInsiders.com Hot West Board a poster says,"the Cali-Florida Bowl to be held (at) Cal-State Fullerton on Dec. 31st. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Net."

It looks to me like the 12/31 date in California is the correct one. I found this blurb using Google:
"The CaliFlorida Bowl will be Dec. 31 at Cal State Fullerton at 3 p.m. Mater Dei's Bruce Rollinson will coach the California squad against the team from Florida. Servite coach Troy Thomas will be among the assistants. The county players in the game are Chane Moline of Mission Viejo (UCLA), Parsons (USC), Romney Fuga of Edison, Ben Terry of Capistrano Valley, Joey Tavarez of Mater Dei and Ryan Hurtado of Mater Dei. The team will practice at Cal State Fullerton starting Dec. 26. Colton's Allen Bradford, regarded as the top recruit in the state, leads the California squad." |
