'06 NJ DB Myron Rolle (FSU signee)

Myron Rolle
Princeton (New Jersey) The Hun School
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 200 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.49 seconds
Bench reps: 18
Vertical leap: 37 inches
GPA: 4.0; Class president & Habitat for Humanity member

2003 stats: 1038 yards on 153 carries and 12 tds; 103 tackles
2002 stats: 90 tackles, 5 ints, and blocked 3 fgs

http://scout.theinsiders.com/a.z?s=1...006&nid=899988

Terrific safety prospect from New Jersey that is already up to 11 offers. VT, UVA, Stanford, Rutgers, Purdue, Penn State, Oklahoma, Mizzou, Maryland, Iowa, & Duke have all offered. He was a second team All-State prep and All-Conference selection his freshman year. As a sophmorehe was 1st team All-State Prep (Prep Schools play in a different league than public or parochial schools in NJ) for both running back and defensive back.

He is transferring to The Hun School of Princeton, NJ for his junior season. The Hun competes in the same conference, Mid-Atlantic Prep League, as his current school (Peddie School).

His dream schools are Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Michigan, Miami, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Virginia Tech and Florida. Only Oklahoma and VT have offered. He says he's looking for a nice mix of athletics and academics. Location is also something he will be looking at. His parents prefer the Ivy League but his talent would no doubt be wasted there. Rolle would like to major in Pre-Med and specialize in Neorology.

Rolle grew up an Oklahoma fan and has already taken an unofficial visit to Norman last November. He also attended their 2003 summer camp where he worked out with the seniors instead of the kids his age.

He discussed, albeit brief, what he likes about Ohio State:

Ohio State - "Coach Tressel seems to be putting together solid teams."

Rolle was one of 6 sophmores that participated at the Elite College Combine on May 5th at the Meadowlands and went up against, arguably the best player in the country, Derrick Williams in one-on-one drills. Rolle did get burnt by Williams on one occasion. However Rolle showed that he wont' back down from a challeng by staying with Williams the next 2 times they went up against each other.

He was also one of the top DBs at the Penn State Nike Camp.

Question Myron Rolle

Anyone heard of this 2006 recruit from Jersey?

Last year Myron Rolle popped up unexpectedly at Oklahoma's summer camp. Nobody from the Sooners staff knew anything about the New Jersey kid other than that he certainly passed the eyeball test. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>

But after a couple of practices, then-Sooner assistant Mike Stoops pulled Rolle out of his group and threw him in with some touted senior prospects so the OU staff could get a better gauge on just what had showed up on their doorstep. Sure enough, the rangy young DB blanketed the receivers at that level too. <o></o>

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
He was mature, quick and had a frame bigger than any of the OU DBs. Rolle dazzled the Sooners staff so much that after the camp Bob Stoops sat down with the kid and his parents and offered the New Jersey product a scholarship.<o></o>

Pretty heady stuff considering Rolle was about to begin his sophomore year. <o></o>

He followed up that visit with a trip to Purdue where a similar scenario played out with Rolle leaving the campus with another scholarship offer. <o></o>

This summer, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound DB showed up in Miami, clocked a camp-best 7.03 in the three-cone drill, locked up the best WR, Jessie Hester Jr., and took home overall camp MVP honors. <o></o>

I've read a couple articles about him. He should be one of the top prospects next year. I'm pretty sure Oklahoma, Purdue, VT, and a few others offered him awhile ago. I know he had interest in OSU too... I think I read he was eventually planning on camping here.

Rivals has a few articles on him.

Sloopy could go either way
I had to check the date when reading that article on ESPN.. it sounded like an April fools joke. He's a 4.0 student, president of his class, editor of the year book and helps little old ladies across the street in his spare time. He works out for 4 hours a day, attends school for 8, works in his microbiology lab for 3, football practice for 2, studies for 4, and tutors disadvantaged youth for 3.

Seriously, he sounds like a great get for somebody, but it'll be interesting to see what he can do with the next three years of high school.

He does sound like a perfect Tressel-type player doesn't he?
and he's just a freshman? Dang!

A little further down in that same article:

It seems like more and more the Big Ten gets less respect by the year. Why is that and do you think there is a national title contender among them?
-Spencer Ryan

Spencer,

I don't think the Big Ten is quite as strong as the Big 12, SEC and now ACC. This year, one of the big challenges is that many of the top teams are trying to replace QBs who were starters for two and three years. From a larger perspective, another big reason is in part due to the resurgences of Oklahoma and Georgia, thus elevating the Big 12 and SEC, whereas in the Big Ten, one of its expected big boys, Penn State has been in serious decline.

As for the title contenders, I would not count out Ohio State. If Lydell Ross can give the Buckeyes a consistent ground threat and the new O-line jells, OSU could be a top-five team again because you can't underestimate a team that's so well coached and seldom misses tackles or beats itself.

I think this kid will look good next to AMW in '07. Looks like a good reason to have hired coach Hazell.

This is just speculation, but this kid may not be a safety by the time he graduates, especially if he keeps growing. He may be a monster linebacker or d-lineman by then.

Quote:
It is not often that we will profile a sophomore in high school, but the interest has been brewing around a certain sophomore within the Nittany Nation. The young player PSU fans are buzzing about is Myron Rolle, a 6'3", 210 lb., 4.43/40 running back/defensive back from Highstown (Peddie), NJ. Already he has received interested from around the nation, with offers from programs like Miami, Maryland, Oklahoma, Stanford, Virginia Tech and Penn State.

A solid student, Myron boasts a 4.0 GPA and an 1120 SAT score and has also served as class president. He is a letterman in football, basketball and track and has emerged as a star at all sprots. Myron has had the opportunity to see Penn State when he visited State College for the Nike Camp in May.
Myron (left, Peddie) was actually named as a Top Ten performer out of the State College Nike Camp and also was selected as the MVP from Miami's Nike Camp. He has really been turing heads with his performances which is translating into offer after offer.

Myron will be playing this fall at The Hun School in Princeton, NJ. He has also been driving two hours to North Jersey to work with a speed coach twice a week.

Myron has a 34 inch vertical leap and benches 185 lbs. upwards of 20 times. The pursuit for his services began, believe it or not, as a freshman, with offers from Oklahoma and Purdue coming his sophomore years. He plays on both sides of the ball at running back and defensive back. As a freshman he led his team with 90 tackles and led the Middle Atlantic Prep League in interceptions on his way to earning second team Prep All-State and All League honors.

As a sophomore this past season Myron gained 1,038 yards and 12 touchdowns at running back and had 103 tackles at defensive back.

He has great field vision and a powerful running style. He is excellent at shedding tacklers and making cutbacks. He is said to be very physical in the secondary and plays an aggressive style of defense against opposing receivers.

Schools seem torn on whether he will end up at running back or defensive back at the collegiate level, but many apparently feel he could play either, or even both. The majority of schools though seem to have him penciled in at safety. Myron would not mind safety, but feels he could also play corner.

Myron also plays guard on his school's basketball team and averaged 13.5 ppg with 9 rebounds per game as a freshman. He has been a consistent starter with a solid perimeter game.

It should be exciting to watch Myron's recruitment as he is anticipated to be one of the most heavily recruited prospects for the Class of 2010 nationally.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Hun defensive back on a Rolle
Sunday, December 12, 2004
CHRIS KOWALCZYK
For the Star-Ledger
Apparently, the secret is out on Hun's Myron Rolle.

During an unofficial recruiting visit at the University of Southern California-Notre Dame game, USC fans took notice of the junior safety and made him feel at home.

"We were walking into the tunnel when people started yelling my name, saying 'what's up Myron?'" Rolle, a junior defensive back, said. "I didn't have anything on me that said who I was or anything. It was the hottest thing that's ever happened to me. I had a smile on my face the rest of the night."

Just another day in the life of Myron Rolle, who has been tabbed by scouts as the top junior recruit in the country.

This year, the 18-year-old Galloway native managed to shine the brightest on a Hun team loaded with stars. From his safety position, Rolle recorded 83 tackles, six sacks and four interceptions to lead Hun to an 8-1 record. In addition, Rolle was the most dominating Prep offensive player, chewing up a school-record 1,501 yards and 15 touchdowns as a running back.

Knowing the talent he had in Rolle, Hun coach Dave Dudek and defensive coordinator John Law moved the junior safety all over the field and used a variety of blitzes to maximize his abilities.

"He can control the game on the defensive side of the ball. You have to decide if you're going to blitz him or whatever," Dudek said.

Rolle relished the role of do-all safety. When the time came to blitz, he turned up the pressure.

"I want to have an aggressive mentality out there," Rolle said. "I want to play hard, play fast and make the offense do something they're not comfortable with. I want them to become reactive."

Already hot on recruiting boards, Rolle laid the groundwork for this season over the summer, when he and his brother, McKinley, a junior at St. John's University, worked out at Absegami high school.

His off-season plan included two workouts per day, beginning at about 7:30 a.m. The program included lifting, running, plyometrics and defensive drills on the field in the late afternoon.

"I set a lot of goals for myself. I wanted to wreak havoc and let people know that I'm the best player in this league," Rolle said.

Rolle's close-knit family of father, Whitney; mother, Beverly, and brothers, Marchant (32), Marvis (28), Mordecai (26) and McKinley (20) have kept him grounded while dealing with all his success.

"Sometimes it's hard to stay humble, but I know that God could take this away from me at any minute," Rolle, a straight-A student, said. "Academics and family have got to be first. Its flattering, but I've got to keep things in perspective and know that this could all leave tomorrow."
