What is the point of a silent verbal, in most cases if they were 100% sure it would be a well known verbal, a silent verbal does leave the door open for his mind to change, just like saying that USC is the team to beat.
I know that USC does this. I have heard of a couple guys that are suppossedly verbals there. I think that is why the gurus at USC bat about a perfect 100% b/c they know that they have already said they are going to go there, no knock on the Stripes or whoever b/c their info is pretty much spot on. the recruits just wait until signing day, so that the staff will be able to generate more interest in high ranked players b/c they feel like they will be the first to commit.

I think that Perez will join USC soon if he makes his commit public like he says he is going to. That would give them Mays and Perez as safeties, and if Johnson holds out a while he could fall behind the likes of McCoy, The guy from Texas, Gable, and who ever else they may want to recruit at rb.

I think if him and Johnson are good friends that we could have something really brewing here.

I know stripes is usually spot on, but if they fill the spots before he gives his verbal then maybe we have a shot by process of elimination.

LOS ANGELES (September 30, 2005) --- Recognized as two of the top football players in the nation, Stafon Johnson and Mark Johnson of Los Angeles have been named 2006 U.S. Army All-Americans. Both will join a stand-out list of athletes playing in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

The classic East vs. West match-up will be televised live on NBC January 7th at 12:00 p.m. (CST) and will feature the top 78 prep football student-athletes in the country.
Stafon Johnson is the #3 ranked running back and Mark Johnson is the #11 ranked linebacker in the country.

"Stafon is a true game-breaking running back, with a strong work ethic. He has the ability to make the big plays as well as do the little things and his vision is excellent. Mark, on the other hand, physically has the quickness and the strength to play both inside or outside. He shows great agility, foot quickness and athleticism," according to Scout.com.

"It is a great pleasure to have these fine young men selected to represent their school and community as U.S. Army All-Americans," said Colonel Thomas Nickerson, Director of Strategic Outreach for the U.S. Army Accessions Command. "They have proven themselves to be superior athletes who, like our Soldiers, take pride in making a difference and turning in outstanding performances.

"Our slogan, 'An Army of One,' recognizes the strength of the individual in achieving team goals. Stafon and Mark demonstrate how football, like the Army, makes you a stronger person not just for today, but into the future. A national audience will see this when they take the field in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl," said Col. Nickerson.

Stafon is a standout running back and free safety while Mark is a standout linebacker. Both play at Dorsey High School and were two of 400 players nominated nationally and two of 78 selected to participate in the Bowl by the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee.

Scout.com is an official selection partner of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Found this on SI.com. Disheartened me a little bit because I thought this might still be an OSU/USC battle for his services... even though I don't think there was a soul on this board that thought he was coming here anyways...

3. Stafon Johnson (6-0, 200) is the No. 2-rated running back in the nation out of Dorsey High in Los Angeles. USC is the leader over Cal, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee and UCLA. The Trojans will be awfully tough to beat for this prospect.
close?

his scout profile says the same thing. if this were an OSU/USC battle, his thread would have been updated sometime in the last 2 months
