'06 OH WR/TE Jeff Cumberland (Illinois signee)
![]() Jeff Cumberland Tight end / Weakside DE Columbus Brookhaven Height: 6-foot-6 Weight: 220 pounds 40-yard dash: 4.55 seconds Jeff also plays basketball in high school, but is probably a better football prospect. He favors Ohio State, Florida State, Miami, and Wisconsin; Minnesota is not on his list. He is a teammate of 2006 Buckeye recruit OL Mark Jackson. I like the fact that football has become a very popular sport at Brookhaven and Glenville. These schools are going to be incredible pipelines in the future. I see no reason why Brookhaven won't be able to pump out the same type of talent year in and out as Glenville. Those two schools alone will put out players the caliber of Carol City or Dillard in South Florida. That along with the traditional talent around the state is just going to make Ohio State stronger.

Glenville and Brookhaven are football powers because Cleveland and Columbus have open enrollment for high schools. All the best players flock to Glenville, and, to a lesser extent, Brookhaven in Columbus, because they have established themselves as power schools. All the rest of the public schools in Cleveland get smashed by Glenville, and in Columbus, only Independence and Walnut Ridge hang w/ Brookhaven on a yearly basis, and even they aren't really state championship caliber teams on a regular basis, unlike Brookhaven.

Oh, I know about the open enrollment policies. I'm simply stating that there is a reason now for inner city kids in Cleveland and Columbus to be excited about football. Not only do they have a chance to make it to the NFL someday, but they can also be a part of some good teams in high school - that will drive interest up in these cities.

Cumberland was offered by OSU about a week ago. His top 3 are OSU, Miami, andd Minny. He is close to Alex Daniels. He will camp at Michigan and attend a Nke camp in California. He has been offered by OSU, Minny, And Illinois. |

Does anyone know why Cumberland ceased to be a member of the basketball team this year? There were some rumors about it. I suppose if the Bucks extended an offer, then they are confident that he has the necessary character to join the program.

I have seen Cumberland play a few times and he is pretty fast for a tight end, probably in the 4.6 speed range I would say, has great hands and he could stretch the field if Brookhaven utilized him more.

3/6/05 Jeff had 16 points as the Bearcats rallied from a 16-point defecit for a 58-55 double-overtime victory over Dublin Coffman in a Division I district final. Cumberland is a solid basketball player, but is an outstanding football recruit. Last edited by OSUBasketballJunkie; 03-11-2005 at 12:01 PM. |

Solid recruit right now. If his measureables and speed are correct, he could be one of the top TE's in the country. He and Reuland would be absolutely outstanding.
How close is he with the other Brookhaven boys that went to Minnesota? |
