Perez is listing USC, Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, LSU and Ohio State as his top choices. Antwine likes the SEC for their ability to put players in the NFL. He will not be camping at USC.

Camden (N.J.) safety Antwine Perez (6-2, 200, 4.5) said he expects to graduate in December and may be able to take in only three official trips before he decides. He's narrowed his list to eight and has an August unofficial trip in mind for one school in August.

Camden (N.J.) safety Antwine Perez (6-2, 200, 4.5) recently narrowed his list of schools to eight. He said he's received 47 offers from coast-to-coast.

"My list is still pretty solid with USC, Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, LSU and Ohio State. I'm solid on these schools for the rest of the recruiting process," said Perez, from Wilson High School.

"I'm going to be graduating early in December, so I want to take at least three official visits before I commit to a program.

"It's kind of unfortunate but I'm not going to be able to camp at USC this summer. My last day of school is the first day of their camp for me, so it's just not going to work out. I plan on getting out there in August for an unofficial visit to see some of their practices and talk with the coaches and the team.

"To tell you the truth, they're the only school that I've decided I'm going to take an official visit to when the time comes. They're a top priority of mine and I definitely got to make it out there for an official visit," he said.

"I really like how Michigan produces some good DBs, year in and year out. They always have one of the top secondaries in college football. Coach (Ron) English (secondary) is one of the top coaches on technique for that position in the country. I think Michigan could be a good fit for me, especially if I want to move on to the NFL after college," he said.

"I also really like coach (Bob) Stoops from Oklahoma. They've always had a strong defense and they're always have one of the top defenses in the country. They're a winning program every year and it's their defense that always puts them at the top. I'd love to be in a program like theirs," he said.

"I also like Tennessee. My cousin, Turk McBride (defensive end), goes there. He never tries to persuade me on them…we've got a real good relationship. He just tells me what it's like and what he knows about recruiting and stuff. Plus, I really love the SEC conference.

"Coach (Willie) Martinez (secondary) from Georgia is truly an outstanding guy and I really like their program too. Florida is one of the premier programs in the SEC and I really like how LSU has been stepping up their program.

"The SEC to me is really the pride of college football. Just look at the statistics. They send more players to the NFL than any other conference. It's a really great conference and I think it would make me a much better player to play in it," he said.

Perez also plays quarterback for Wilson but says he is not being recruited for that position by any of the programs in his top eight.

"I really don't see myself playing quarterback in college. I’m way more defensive-minded and that's what side of the ball I want to be on."

Perez has been to JR Days at Penn State and Rutgers. He was also at the Elite combine on May 4 in New Jersey.

"I don't think I'll really have time to take in any camps or unofficial visits other than the one at USC in August that I'm shooting for. I've got a real busy football schedule this summer," he said.

"I think my #1 defensive ability is to hit hard--I just explode at the ball carrier. I'm also fast on breaking on the ball and I've got a great ability to cover as well. I do a good job at reading offenses now, but I always think that I could get better at it. That's what I want to improve on more for this season," he said.

Final JR (7-3) stats: 58 tackles/7 INTs/4 FC; 1700 yds pass/14 TDs/7 INTs; 500 yds rush/10 TDs Bench: 305/Squat: 415/Power Clean: 245/Vert Jump: 34" 3.2 GPA/940 SAT (old test)/first-time ACT unset

This boggles my mind. Other than Woodson and Law, what DB is a bonafide star in the NFL?

Why these kids dont consider the DBs OSU has in the NFL is beyond me? Winfield, Springs, Clements, Doss, Gamble, Allen, Fox

GoBucks,
The commonsense answer is a pi$$ poor job by the lead OSU assistant coach. If I was Tres I would be livid that this kid is allowed to make statements like this. I would have sent glossies of all the NFL OSU DBs. scUM cannot touch the numbers we produce.

The kids coming through now grew up watching Woodson...he was an amazing college player. Throw in the Fab 5 and Ty Law getting all of the publicity and SB rings, and you get a "cool" aura around Michigan. Whether it is true or not is irrelevant...

Anyway, back to Antwine.

As much as I think he is going to struggle at the next level, Jackson is a decent CB. We all know that Shazor blows.

Also keep in mind that any kid being interviewed is going to say nice things about the school. I doubt all of us have a great understanding of what Florida's secondary is like every year. He probably is new to the information game, and as Grad said this wave of kids grew up watching great DBs like Woodson and Law.

If he wants to come to OSU, he will soon learn of how many more DBs go to the NFL from us.

Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, USC and Tennessee are the teams on his list. He is taking summer classes to graduate early. He liked Mike Doss when he played at OSU. Coach Hazell is recruiting Perez and they have known eachother for awhile due to Hazell being from Rutgers.

Coach Hazell also mentioned this kid as someone we should look out for saying we were in pretty decent shape. He mentioned that he was a better pure football player and safety then Myron Rolle.

Coach Hazell isn't allowed to talk about recruits if I'm not mistaken

Who was he saying this to?

And about the Michigan DB's. Have Antwine ask Ty Law what he thinks about the staff at Michigan.

Buckeyefromheck was a camper (sophomore qb, right?), so Hazell can tell him whatever he wants. Good to hear Hazell thinks we have a good shot, but I'll beleive it when I hear it. If he comes to tOSU, hopefully the comparison to Rolle holds true!

Michigan is NOT known for putting DB's in the NFL. Other than Ty Law ('93) and Charles Woodson ('98), who have they put in "The League"? They've had other DB's drafted, but they've almost all been marginal players, and none of them have been impact players. Ron English might be known as a good recruiter, but not as a great DB coach...look at some of the top DB talent scUM-North has had coming in, and how little they've developed, or even regressed, when they graduated. Contrast that with OSU: we've put legions of great DB's in the NFL, and they've almost all been impact players. Someone needs to set Mr. Perez's information (and his sources) straight.

We put DB's in the NFL better than any program, and the only one comparable is maybe sc"U"m-South.
