One of Ohio's top junior offensive linemen is D.J. Burris of Kenton. Burris got a rare honor back in the spring as he was one of only a few juniors to get an invite to Nike Camp. "It was pretty exciting," he said. "I know not many juniors get invited."

I just got back from <!--Default For Indiana is to ignore-->Indiana. I wish we had more time to drill. During the 7-on-7s I played linebacker just to stay in shape, just to stay on top of things.

Burris showed well at the camp, running a 5.31 40 on a slow track at OSU with 4.97 shuttle. Where he really impressed was the bench press, where he did 32 reps at 185.

"I thought I was going to do more than 32 reps of 185," Burris said. "I've done 225 28 times."

Burris is known for his strength as he took second in the state power lifting meet in his weight class, where he bench pressed 375 pounds and put up a 660 squat. Right now, the 6-3, 275 pound Burris is slated to play at guard on offense and DT on defense, but none of the colleges recruiting him have specified where they would want him to play.

D.J. Burris 6-3, 285, 5.1, Kenton, OH

I don't claim any insider information on D.J....yet. Coming from the Kenton area, we have a lot of mutual friends and I imagine I'll get something af value before we are all done.

The first thing that stuck out to me was that Wake Forest was on his final list. I think that they are a HUGE player in his recruitment because of Ben Mauk going there. I know a lot of the Kenton football players and fans have actually made the trip to N.C. to watch Ben play. I have been under the impression that D.J. is a Buckeye fan, but I feel Wake is neck and neck with us (assuming we even offer).

D.J. has tOSU, Michigan, Iowa, Cincinnati, Minnesota, and West Virginia as his top 5. Ball State is the only school to offer but WVU is said to be close. tOSU coaches have told Burris he will be a camp decision after they evaluate him.

On Tuesday, D.J. Burris stood in front of his Minnesota teammates and gave an impassioned speech about what it would mean to beat Ohio State today.

Burris is from Kenton, about 60 miles northwest of Columbus, and said he had a chance to play for Ohio State.

Instead, he became a Golden Gopher, where he has been a four-year starter on the offensive line. But his senior season has not been what he had hoped. Minnesota is 1-7 and coach Tim Brewster was fired less than two weeks ago.

Minnesota is a 251/2-point underdog to Ohio State today at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The Gophers haven't beaten the Buckeyes since 2000 and have lost the past three years by an average of 22 points. Now, Burris has one last chance to make his mark against the team he rooted for as a kid.

So on Tuesday, he spoke from the heart.

"He said how important this game was to him and what it would mean to him to play our best," quarterback Adam Weber said.

"He said that every year against them we've fallen a little short, and that it would mean a lot if we could go out there and put whatever has happened this season behind us and come away with a big, big win for this program."
