Northwestern simply outplayed Iowa today. Of course they just joined a long list of teams to do just that since Tate became QB.

Sutton is running with authority and Bacher has made strides in becoming a better quarterback.

We very well could see a replay of today's game, but set your tv color to purple, not orange.

I don't think Northwestern has the defense to do what Illinois did, but all bets are off if we decide to go ultra conservative like we did today in the second half where he threw only once on first down.

edit: ^^ check that. we didn't throw it at all on first down... and we only threw it once on 2nd.

here's to one more win next week! i hope Tressel holds 'em back again, and Pitt gets another 32 carries. after that, the Buckeyes will be so ravenous that TSUN will never know what hit 'em!!!

I hope not. I want him fresh for the game. I don't know how his body would respond to 2 straight 30+ carry games. I hope Pitt gets 15 and goes for 100 and a score and Beanie gets his first 100 yard game of his career and more importantly doesn't lose the ball.

Locker room buzzing about Buckeyes' visit

IOWA CITY -- Northwestern coaches and players didn't give Ohio State coach Jim Tressel any bulletin-board material after their 21-7 victory Saturday at Iowa, but it's fair to say they're looking forward to hosting the top-ranked Buckeyes next week.




''I can't wait to get back to work,'' coach Pat Fitzgerald said. ''It's great to get the monkey off our backs, but we all know what we have in front of us. It's all anybody was talking about in the locker room.''
The Wildcats played their best game of the season on offense and defense and finally were rewarded with their first Big Ten victory. They have played solid football for 10 of the last 12 quarters against Michigan State, Michigan and Iowa. It makes it seem as if anything is possible -- especially after the Buckeyes struggled in a 17-10 victory at Illinois.
''We feel like we can hang with anybody,'' wide receiver Ross Lane said. ''We're real excited about next week.''

POISE NOT ENOUGH: C.J. Bacher completed 19 of 29 passes for 218 yards and a touchdown in his third career start. The sophomore also threw two interceptions that could have been costly. One interception was tipped, the other overthrown.
''He's got some pocket poise, but he has to start making better decisions,'' Fitzgerald said.

TRIPLE THREAT: Expect to see more of Andrew Brewer, meanwhile, in his new ''slash'' role. The redshirt freshman, who started three games at quarterback this season, lined up at receiver for about a dozen plays. He caught a 48-yard pass, then ran a fake reverse that helped running back Tyrell Sutton score untouched in the first quarter. He took a handoff later and looked to throw before being forced out of bounds.
Brewer even ran the option on third-and-one in the second quarter, pitching to Sutton for a one-yard loss.
''Down the road I can see that I could be a good threat because I can throw, run and catch,'' he said. nhayes@suntimes.com

Well, I saw NW play at Miami (OH) at the beginning of this year. They looked terrible on defense, and their offense was pretty bad too. I haven't watched them play since, so I'm not sure if they have gotten "better".

They have found a QB thats for sure. I'd say right now NU is Illinois without quite so much young talent but every bit their equal in scrappiness. This team plays like its coach and they will fight all day. In the end we'll just be too much for them but if we start trying to kill the clock after halftime again it could be an exact replay.

I think JT tried to toughen up the troops yesterday and will again against NU too. This could be close again.

I say if JT is not gonna let our team play like it's capable of playing, then just start the second string, play Boeckman the whole game... shoot, give Beanie 32 straight rushes against 8 men in the box.

Not only can the Buckeyes LOSE to Northwestern, it's not a good way to get yourself in "beat scUM" mode, playing like we did yesterday. I'm not talking about stats or polls or Heisman races... I mean our PLAYERS don't like games like that. Sheesh!

Of course, it was painful for me to watch, also.

You know, playing like that is what gets you hurt.

I agree with what someone said in the Chris Wells thread, give it to Stan White or Pepper's kid, anything is better than having to watch "that play" again. Pittman, minus 1... Pittman minus 1.... Smith is sacked.... Trapasso, a 28 yard punt.... and the Illini take over at midfield.

Don't you think that there is even the slightest possibility that the next visit to the land of Lincoln will be much more like the road trip to Iowa, than that which they made to Champaign?

OSU was due for a clunker first of all. Secondly, I'd much prefer playing from ahead than playing from behind.

Beyond that, I think there are about 116 other D-1A team that would love to be 10-0 at this point in the season.

The Illinois game is over. Now it's on to Northwestern.
