Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Texas will not be the same team they were as national champions, on offense or defense.

The loss of Vince Young cannot be over-emphasized...he added a completely new dimension to their offense. If Young wasn't playing in the Oklahoma State game, no way in hell does Texas come back from the 28-12 haltime deficit on the road...same could be said about the game a Texas A&M. Oh yeah, Young's absence probably would've had an effect on a certain little game played on Sept 10th. Texas will have either a redshirt freshman will next to no game time experience or a true freshman who may find the stadium with a map and GPS assistance. This is about as far a step down in the most important offensive position as you can get. They also lose tackle Jonathon Scott, guard Will Allen, and tight end David Thomas on their line. Special teams loses place kicker David Pino.

Their defense also gets a hit, losing Rodrique Wright at tackle, Aaron Harris at linebacker, Cedric Griffin at corner, and Michael Huff at safety.

Obviously, the big question will be our new defense against their new quarterback. Our offense will move the ball...the question will be if we can keep Texas from doing the same.

The one thing that the big twelve does have more of than any other conference is mobile quarterbacks. last year alone saw, Vince young, Reggie McNeal, and brad smith. Then you have osu, baylor, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:State w:st="on"><ST1kansas</ST1</st1:State>, and k-state all using a mobile qb. hell even bomar is no statue. Admittedly only one of those guys is as good as troy smith and we never had to play against him. We do have plenty of practice against mobile qbs and we use different schemes all the time, there will be a spy some of the time and other times there will not be. Regardless it will be a challenge.<O</O

Come on now HL. Vince Young is better than Troy Smith. It's foolish to say that only Reggie McNeal is as good. Don't sell your own guy too short.

No way Troy looses this game. He's gonna be next year's VY. Big finish to last season w/ a BCS win.

I don't care who we got playing D. There is no first year QB that will be able to beat us.

Texas also loses a lot of quality players on defense. I know Okam is a beast, but losing Dibbles and Wright both at DT will hurt. Harris, the MLB was their best linebacker, even though Killebrew really turned it on towards the end, they also lose the thorpe winner. They also lose their best reciever in their tight end, and a first rounder at LT.

Oh... and did I mention Vince Young?

our defense will have a chance to be better than last year and our offense is going to be very experienced other than that one glarring spot. Tony Hills would have started for 95% of the teams in the nation last year at left tackle. If anyone can handle loosing Jscott it is us. If we can get solid, mistake free qb play next year then this texas team will be very very good. if not, we will drop a couple. probably ou and tosu.

the similarities between the '05 Texas squad and the '06 Buckeyes look to be numerous. Could be an interesting season. This texas team reminds me of the '03 trojans that had an untested QB (leinart) but were loaded with tallent. I think that we drop a game or two along the way. Really hoping its not OU. I could stomach a loss to yall much easier

Yes, but we also have an advantage. In the history of college football, the away team in the tOSU-Texas series has NEVER lost. Simply, incredible.
