I think his attempt to use numbers is actually funny. It is simply an audition to try and get on Mack's staff with the power of positive thinking through numbers. Who does that for Texas this year?

Hawk did it for OSU last year and almost got it done. Smith is taking that role for OSU this year.

That's the $25,000 question. There is a tremendous void that needs to be filled, and quick. Not sure who can provide that level of leadership, but I think it has to come from someone on the defense.

A separate question for OSU backers: I know you guys despise Michigan, but you must admit that they've had great success getting QB's drafted and performing in the pros. Has OSU had success getting QB's in the pros, who are they, and have they prospered there?

As for those who question TD statistics, it is the person with the ball in their hands as they cross the plane who scores the TD, the receiver in the case of a pass. A quarterback can get a TD accounted for, but he didn't score it.

The latest news on Ramonce is that he was released on a $5000 bond this morning so he could take a final. His attorney is pushing for fingerprint tests on the bags to show which of Ramonce's "friends" who were in the SUV really owned the stuff. He could get out of this yet. Even so, he is probably done at UT, and if he stays out of prison I suspect he will sit out a year and apply for the draft next spring.

Combination of things. Many of the "outstanding" Ohio State QBs in recent years benefitted from The John Cooper Recruiting Machine. Bobby Hoying and Joe Germaine, for example. How can you not be an outstanding QB when you can throw to Galloway, Glenn, Dudley, or hand off to Eddie George, and you've got 350-lb guys like Orlando Pace blocking? It was a juggernaut.

Each QB is different, of course, and for Ohio State QBs it's been a combination of performance, timing, arm strength, mechanics, systems, or luck. I gave Hoying and Germaine as good a shot as any of finally breaking through (maybe Hoying moreso than Germaine). Hoying wound up in Oakland behind Gannon for a few years, while Germaine went to St Louis and was behind both (back then) Green and Warner.

Troy's problem, as we've all been debating in the QB thread, is his height. That doesn't mean he will or won't be successful as an NFL QB, but 6'1" is rather short for the modern NFL. I re-watched my Fiesta Bowl DVD yesterday afternoon and found three plays where Notre Dame batted the ball down at the line, and their D-Line was pretty well manhandled from the get go. That's in only about half the game that I didn't fast-forward through.

Of course, Schlichter would have been 'the one' if he hadn't [censored]ed it all away with his personal demons, booze and gambling.

I think that you can roll your eyes about a lot of xray's posts, but he did mention Robison's feat as an aside in his post, not as a reason that UT would win the game. Commence the xray bashing, I will only try to defend him once in awhile.

I don't know if they will have any one person doing that type of thing this year. i do know that Selvin Young has said that Vince's influence has carried over to this team. Guys like Limas Sweed and Billy Pittman are getting the young QB's involved and teaching them what VY showed last year. Guys like Casey Studdard and Brian Robison, known for their motors and means streaks, are supposedly stepping up as well.
