The Rio Grande is a disgrace. It's a low, dirty, not terribly impressive. The Guadalupe is beautiful, not far from Austin. You can go tubing for hours down the river, we even have tubes for ice chests, so people can drink while they float. Highly recommended to escape from the heat you all claim will be non-existent. Of course, Austin is surrounded by five lakes (the Colorado River flows through downtown) They are all good-sized, and populated by beautiful women. I plan to include them in an extensive list of activities to do in Austin, as the game gets closer. |

On behalf of Buckeye fans, here's wishing a quick recovery for Mack Brown, who had knee replacement surgery earlier this week.
houston.chronicle May 19, 2006, 11:36AM Mack Brown has knee replacement surgery By JOSEPH DUARTE Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle <!-- commented out ad <iframe width="1" height="1" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder=0 scrolling=no></iframe> <script></script> --> Texas football coach Mack Brown underwent knee joint replacement surgery on his left leg earlier this week, the school announced Friday. Brown, who had his college career at Vanderbilt and Florida State cut short because of knee injuries in the early 1970s, expects to be fully recovered in time for the start of fall practice in early August, according to a statement released by the school. He will also conduct the UT football program's summer camps beginning May 30. Brown had to reschedule speaking engagements with the National Football Foundation and Touchdown Club of Houston this month because of the surgery. He will speak to the Touchdown Club of Houston on Aug. 3 at the J.W. Marriott. Brown won the Bear Bryant Award as the nation's top college football coach in January after leading the Longhorns to the school's first national football title since 1970. |

The Rio Grande isn't all bad. After the reservoir upstream from Del Rio and around El Paso, it's pretty nasty. But in between it's probably one of the most scenic rivers in the country. Views are breathtaking and the whitewater kicks ass.

Dirty Rivers, HAH!
Ohio folk, please remember the Cuyahoga River (up near Cleveland). This river caught on fire, and was actually declared a fire hazard. If this thread has degenerated into a 'who's got the worst river' thread, then accept the Cuyahoga (refuse for the steel mills that used to be in Cleveland), as compared to the Red, Rio Grande, or any of the other 'big muddy' rivers in Texas.
By the way, HL is correct when he speaks about potable water (in Texas). Many people have died in Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Az, etc. over water rights. ![]() |

Tressel and the Buckeye offense...
While I haven't followed coach Tressel's fortunes too closely since he began at tOSU, what I have seen has been very impressive. Probably his biggest attribute has been the ability to adapt his offensive game plans to exploit the opponents weaknesses.
tOSU's game plan against ND in the Fiesta bowl was: 1) Very effective 2) Taylor made to make the Irish weaknesses more glaring 3) Very different in style than what I saw against the Longhorns and in other games that I saw the Buckeye's play in '05. IMO the keys to being able to be innovative are experience AND talent. I know that you guys are long on both on the offensive side of the ball. Who is tOSU's most explosive player on offense outside of Mr. Smith? Thanks in advance! Hook'em |

Welcome aboard, TJK. Don't be upset if this gets merged into the Texas thread as it looks like you are a Texas fan. The mods are pretty organized around here. |
