Do you think that your inexperience will factor into the defensive play calling or the execution of what is called? Hook'em |

Saw the AA game
Chris Wells looks like he'll be a good one. You guys see blue chips at the RB position every year. You got a personal opinion on how Wells will fare?

I think we will be able to pressure the Texas QB, we lose a ton of players and talent, but return 6 of our top 8 defensive linemen, and the 2 that arent returning didnt get drafted. Last year we had to move Bobby Carpenter to DE on passing situations because we didnt have an impact pass rusher at DE, but this year we do. |

In the spring game (take it for what its worth) he was very good and looked like the real deal. He would constantly bounce off the first tackler and get to the outside w/ very good speed for someone his size. He caught a nice swing pass. I was very impressed, reminded me a lot of the one who shall not be named, but w/ out the baggage. Some other sources, Dick Tressel in an interview said he was impressed. He enrolled early obviously and seems humble and excited about learning new things every day. He and Pittman are from the same town, and they both appear to have much respeck for each other too, which is good for chemistry. I think he'll be a stud, but I have scarlet and grey glasses on, I hope that helped.

Anyway, one cannot minimize the difference in the Buckeye offense between the Texas game and the Fiesta Bowl. First, Troy Smith played against Texas in his first game after the suspension. Had he continued his performance, as he had against Michigan the previous year, then I think the outcome of the Texas game and the style of offense would have been different. The styles of Zwick and Smith were very different and this had knock-on effects on the offensive line etc. Second, we also witnessed a substantial degree of maturity growing in Smith. As the game "slowed down" for him, he became more patient and gained confidence in using his arm rather than his feet. Tresselball is not a slow plodding offense. It is rather an offense that fits its game strategies to its current player resources. I think you can look for one heck of an offense to arrive in Austin. |

Taylor yeah...
Guess I was just still hung up on Ramonce's legal troubles. LOL.
I am sure that the offense will rock. I think we'll have an outstanding defense to test it. It may be the best unit we've had under Brown which is saying something. I am curious what Tressel will try and "gameplan" for against us. We really are very strong at all positions on D and we will have only played UNT which won't force us to show any particular tendency. Will be interesting. Can't wait to host tOSU in DKR. Hook'em |

I think Tressel will spread the ball around and run a balanced offense. Pittman will be the starter at running back. Hes pretty underrated, last year as a true sophomore he gained 1300 yards in the Big Ten. However I think Chris Wells will get the majority of the short yardage and goal line carries. Should be another classic. I think it will come down to how well our new linebackers can play the run. Our defensive line will be better this year, so its up to the linebackers to make plays. |

Charles is fast, but he isnt that fast. Recently Justin Gatlin ran a 9.76 and got 1st place. A few years ago Asafa Powell ran a 9.77. 1. Justin Gatlin 9.76 2. Olusoji Fasuba 9.84 3. Shawn Crawford 10.08 That was the top 3 of the race when Gatlin set the world record. I doubt that he could beat Shawn Crawford. Edit: The same Shawn Crawford that won a gold medal in the 200 meter in Athens. Last edited by scarletngrey11; 05-20-2006 at 04:34 PM. |

Actually due to a rounding error Gatlin's official 100m time should be 9.77, tying Asafa Powell's run.
Still, I think it's pretty unfair to discredit Jamaal Charles' feats (feets? haha) because he's not the fastest man on the planet. |

But he is not on the same level as a Shawn Crawford like xray seems to think. |
