I was suprised by Pogue's play yesterday in the Division II State Championship game.....Pogue is very physical and even though he picked up 2 quick fouls, I thought he played smart and even took 2 charges in the game. He got on the floor numerous times....

Obviously, he could stand to lose some weight in order to improve his quickness, but I think he could be one to watch next year if he decides to concentrate on basketball.

Rumor is that Pogue may transfer to North College Hill next year to play with Mayo and Walker.

Not being fair ain't the half of it.

What they are essentially doing is putting together an AAU team and exploiting the HS infrastructure to get extra games with big gyms under the pretense of competing as a High School team.

NCH opted out of their league this season so they could put together their own slate which included 8 teams from out of state. They were expected to generate $75,000 in revenue from basketball this season and could top 100k next year.

That is a lot of money to be floating around a HS athletic department. Recruiting a team to generate revenue is NOT what HS BBall is about.

Mayo, Walker and Ellis all chose to play at NCH. Does anyone else wonder what incentives tempted them to choose to play two divisions below the big dogs?

Sorry, I'm hijacking.

Just curious, but if it stinks so bad, why don't more people criticize Ted Ginn and what he is doing at Glenville? Canton McKinley, Huber Heights Wayne...on and on it goes. Same thing, pretty much...

And why is it wrong for Pogue to want to play with those guys? Dunbar and NCH played a national schedule this year, and Pogue probably gets along well with them and wants to play a national schedule next year as well (which Dunbar won't be able to do as much as this year).

If Pogue does indeed transfer to NCH, can't you respect the young man for trying to keep his game and options at a higher level? As long as all is done legitimately, I have never had a fault with moves like this. Undoubtedly, he will get a chance to play across America next year against the best in the country. Playoff time is a joke, of course, but I think the problem there lies with the OHSAA. They should allow schools to play at higher Divisions if they so choose. Would make for an even playing field in the smaller divisions that go up against small Catholic schools or a program like NCH. Remember, LeBron's team won the Division III title his first two years of HS.

It is different, b/c what goes on at Glenville his mostly the inner city kids, that can choose which school they would like to attend and Glenville has the best football program. It is getting a lil worse now, but that is mainly b/c all the kids see it as a nice catapult to the next level.

The fact is with Pogue is that he was on a very good team this year and would be the leader of that team next year. What is the reason for transferring, it is not like he is playing bad competition. If they want to play AAU year round, well why don't they do that, they are taking away from kids at other schools that have their only shot to win a championship that the school has ever had, but they run into a team with 2 NBA caliber players on the team.
