6/22/06 At the NBA camp, McCamey didn't have his best performance, inconsistent with his shot, but has a college ready body. |

McCamey picks Illinois Posted by: Brett Dawson Friday, 30 June 2006 Most Illinois fans I've talked to in recent weeks were hoping to see Bruce Weber land Demetri McCamey and Evan Turner from Westchester St. Joseph High School and call it a year for the high school class of 2007. They'll have to settle for one out of two. McCamey committed to Weber this morning, just a day after Turner cast his lot with Ohio State. And those who wonder about Weber's ability to close with a recruit will have to concede that his work with McCamey was impressive. This is a 6-foot-3 point guard built for the Big Ten who only this week received a scholarship offer from Illinois. And that offer was enough to sway McCamey from his longtime leader, Wake Forest, to Champaign. "They did a great job recruiting me," McCamey told me this morning. He cited his comfort level with the staff and players (he's known Brian Carlwell for years and considers Jamar Smith one of his best friends) as deciding factors in his decision, which you can read more about in this afternoon's News-Gazette. |
