Rhodes arena
THE TOURNAMENT
The second annual Papa John's King James Shooting Stars Classic will draw 465 boys basketball teams to the area for games Friday through Sunday.
Teams in age brackets from 10U to 17U will play at Rhodes Arena, the University of Akron Athletics Field House and numerous high school and other gymnasiums in the Greater Akron area.

The reason Akron will be the capital of amateur basketball this weekend is LeBron James.
Not that James will be around for the King James Classic, which this year will bring 465 teams of kids ages 17 or younger to town. Along with their parents. And many big-name college coaches also will come, to scout the 70 or so of the nation's top 100 young players expected to play.
While James is with the Cavaliers this weekend in Washington for the playoffs, his former high school coach, Dru Joyce II, is running this tournament that will be worth an estimated $5 million to the economies of Summit, Portage and Stark counties, according to tournament officials.

The King James Shooting Stars Classic represents a who's who of the best high school basketball players around the state and region.
Top Ohio players at the three-day AAU boys tournament that began Friday at sites across Akron include 6-8 St. Edward forward and Michigan State recruit Delvon Roe, 6-4 Toledo Libbey shooting guard and Ohio State recruit William Buford, 6-3 Garfield Heights guard Robert Wilson, and 7-0 Massillon Perry center and Xavier recruit Kenny Frease.
Frease had two bones broken in his right eye socket during a game on Feb. 2 and didn't play again until the end of the regular season.
