Pointers 'let one get away' in loss to NW

McDERMOTT - The South Point Pointers had a bad fishing trip Friday night.
With another win within their grasp, Tyler Mitchell ran 37 yards with 9:33 to play that lifted the Northwest Mohawks to a 35-32 win over the Pointers. "We let one get away," Pointers coach Dan McDavid said.
The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Pointers who were 3-1 coming into the game
"The offense put up enough for us to win tonight, we were undisciplined on defense and that is what beat us," McDavid said. "We need to come out next week and correct our mistakes and get after it again."
South Point opens Ohio Valley Conference play at Rock Hill next Friday.
Rocky Roe had a big game with 221 total yards offense for the Pointers. Roe ran eight times for 97 yards and caught three passes 124 yards and two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving.
"Rocky Roe had a real breakout game," McDavid said.
Northwest (2-2) took a 7-0 lead on a 7-yard pass from Michael Hughes to Jacob Cooper. Cody Penn had an 18-yard scoring run and Hughes scored on a 1-yard run as Northwest built a 20-0 lead.
But quarterback Chris Smith hit Roe on a 57-yard pass play and then Smith ran for a touchdown with only 1:09 left in the half as the Pointers pulled within 20-13.
A 49-yard pass from Smith to Roe less than two minutes into the second half got the Pointers within 20-19.
John Crager had a 2-yard run to put the Pointers ahead 25-20 with 2:49 to play in the quarter.
Hughes had a 53-yard scamper and Penn added the conversion run as Northwest went up 28-25.
South Point then regained the lead on a 62-yard burst by Roe with 11:47 to play. Adam Stewart kick the point after and it was 32-28.
But two minutes later Mitchell made his play to rally Northwest to the win.
Smith completed 5 of 15 passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Crager added 58 yards rushing on 13 carries.
