8/29 Eric has trimmed his list to 10 schools: Clemson, Miami, Tennessee, Florida State, Georgia, Auburn, Ohio State, Southern Cal, Notre Dame, and Texas. He says that he is pretty sure that he will visit USC, Georgia, Tennessee, and Miami officially. As of right now, his 5th visit would be to tOSU. I think I'll move this back to the main page for now...

Riverdale not intimidated by blue-chip opposition By Seth Coleman The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 09/07/06 Though Creekside quarterback/free safety Eric Berry has been the subject of conversation from community barbershops to recruiting chat rooms, you'll have to excuse the Riverdale players if they aren't all that impressed. After all, facing a blue-chip stud is commonplace for Riverdale. "No disrespect to Eric Berry, because he is a tremendous player," said Riverdale first-year head coach Kevin Jones. "But this is not new to us." The list of Raider opponents over the past couple of years reads like a Georgia recruiting Who's Who: Douglass' James Davis (ACC Freshman of the Year at Clemson University); Stephenson's Marcus Ball (now at Florida State University); and Lovejoy's Mario Fannin (now at Auburn University). "All of those players are playing on Saturday afternoons and will probably play on Sunday afternoons, too," Jones said. "And this year we'll see [North Clayton's] Morgan Burnett. He's going to play on Saturday afternoons and Sunday, too. "So our kids always know what we're up against," Jones said. "To us, it's all part of the game. It's what we do." What hasn't been part of Riverdale's game in recent years was the pass, as former coach Nick Davis (now at Shiloh) preferred Georgia Southern University's old "flexbone" offense. While it was successful, it made the Raiders predictable on offense. But already this year, senior quarterback Rod Mason has shown that he is not only a running threat, but he can throw as well, completing 11 of 15 passes last week in a 10-7 win over Mundy's Mill. "[Rod] is a four-year starter, and is as cool as they come," Jones said. "I told someone the other day, he's so cool, he makes ice sweat. He's like a coach on the field out there." While Jones said his team won't be awed by Berry or by the magnitude of the game, he wouldn't mind not having to face Berry. "Maybe he'll miss the team bus or something," Jones joked. GAME OF THE WEEK > Who: Creekside at Riverdale > When, where: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Tara Stadium > Last season: Creekside was 10-1, losing in the first round of the state playoffs; Riverdale was 8-3 and lost in the first round of the state playoffs. > Three things to watch: 1. Riverdale must contain QB/DB Eric Berry, one of the nation's most talented football players. 2. The Raider defense has to prevent big plays by the Seminole offense. 3. Riverdale's newly balanced offense has to hold on to the ball and limit Creekside's possessions.
