Wright just had 1st round NFL bound safety look to him. What an athlete!

He is a phenomonal athlete but had, what, 3 personal fouls in that game? Hurt his team mulitiple times with stupid late hits.

Absolutely correct. That has to stop, although I guess I can feel his frustration at the way the skunk bears had their way with the UF secondary.
As unhappy as I am about that (already sent an e-mail to the athletic department, admin, and Meyer about the Cane-ish behavior), Wright is a damn baller, and I guess I'd rather be in a position to coach an athlete to be smarter, than teach a less aggressive kid to be more "athletic". One you can, the other....good luck

Wright's a good kid, he just needs someone to take him by the helmet and remind him of the rules again... I love the way the kid plays and I'm sure that the UF coaching staff will straighten out the antics. I surely would like it if he were playing for tOSU.

GAINESVILLE -- University of Florida sophomore Major Wright was supposed to be the next great safety at the University of Miami. Born in Hollywood, Wright grew up worshipping one of the greatest safeties in the history of college football, Sean Taylor. By all accounts, Wright was supposed to be the extenuation of Taylor's legacy.

But something went terribly wrong during Wright's senior season at Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, something so frighteningly uncontrollable that its horrific ripple effect still pulsates nearly two years later. Miami lineman Bryan Pata was slain Nov. 7, 2006, and now Wright is the starting free safety for the Gators. No. 5 Florida (1-0) plays host to Miami (1-0) at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Pata's death terrified Wright's mother, Andrea Eluett, a Fort Lauderdale native who works as a pharmacist in Broward County. Eluett was laidback and hands-off throughout her son's intense and extensive recruiting process, but when Pata died, Eluett could sit idly by no longer. As far as she was concerned, the Canes were off-limits.

''I told [Wright] definitely no,'' Eluett said. 'I wanted him far away. I was like, `Get the heck away from your friends and all this craziness.' ''

ALMOST A BUCKEYE

Although Eluett credits former Florida assistant coach Doc Holliday for luring Wright to Gainesville, Eluett said she initially wanted Wright to play for Ohio State. She just wanted Wright as far away from off-the-field distractions as possible, and wanted her son's college years to be an entirely new experience.

She said envisioning Wright at Miami was just too scary. Even when UM coach Randy Shannon tried to ease her fears, Eluett still couldn't shake Pata's death.

''I really didn't want [Wright] to choose Miami,'' Eluett said. ``I wanted him to get away. It was a fear thing and I voiced my opinion against it.''

He's the guy I regret most from this class. Great game against OU. Truly a great player.
