Louisiana Safety Plans Clemson Trip
By Phil Kornblut
DB Chad Jones (6-3 225) of Baton Rouge, LA is a hotly recruited prospect who counts 42 offers in his shoe box at this point. Among the offers are Clemson, LSU, Miami, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Ohio State, Michigan, Indiana, Oklahoma, Iowa and Notre Dame. Jones said Sunday night LSU and Miami are his top two with Clemson, Florida, Florida State and Ole Miss following. Jones said he does have genuine interest in Clemson and plans to take a visit there when he can work out a trip. He said he keeps in touch with Clemson recruiter Burton Burns. Jones had 102 tackles and 5 interceptions from his free safety spot last season. He's also a pro baseball prospect as an outfielder and pitcher.
My take: Southern Lab has some studs to work with this year as Chad and teammate Aaron Johnson are both claiming a ton of D-1 offers. Chad is impressive on film...shows good awareness in space, a headhunter's mentality, and the versatility that tOSU loves. He is a longshot apparently, but a solid prospect.

Chad's final six are LSU, Miami, Florida, Florida State, Ole Miss, and Clemson. He plans to sign a LOI then see where he's drafted for baseball. He admits baseball is his first love and he's a lefthanded pitcher with a 95 mph fastball.

Looks like Chad is likely headed to USC...the only question is a similar one that Devon Torrence will be faced with...where does he go in the MLB draft? USC has guaranteed Chad he can play both baseball and football in college, much like the OSU staff has told Devon.

Is that South Carolina (considering the region) or "the" USC?
