Florida Recruiting This Year (2007)
Canes are down.
FSU is down. Gators are iffy. Do we get more than 2 from Florida this year? You would think we capitalize on things this year? #1 ranking. National exposure. etc. |

The three Florida recruits with the most interest in Ohio State are DB James Scott (Daytona Seabreeze, visiting this weekend); Leonard Hankerson (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, visiting for the Michigan game); and DB Major Wright (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, will schedule a visit).
Of the remaining Florida prospects, WR Deonte Thompson and OL James Wilson have offers, but Wilson is a soft verbal to USC and Thompson probably stays down south. Some others claim Ohio State offers, but I wonder if the Bucks are still interested: QB LaTravis Washington (Nebraska lean); DB DeMarcus Van Dyke (Miami soft verbal); Jamire Williams (OSU in top 5); WR Matt Clements (OSU in top 3); and LB Brian Rolle (OSU leads). I'd say that the Bucks have a good chance to land Scott, and have a fair chance to sign either Hankerson or Wright; the others are long shots until they schedule official visits to Columbus. |

Just poking around and noticed that Florida has only 2 commits at this point. So, I thought maybe they are being very selective with their offers.
If Scout is correct (and some offers are clearly spurious) OSU has extended 41 offers to date and garnered 9 commits. ND has 17 on 41 offers. Texas an incredible 20 of 26. Florida has offered 103! |

I'll add that FSU and Miami are off to GREAT starts (especially FSU). If Miami completes the sweep of who it wants from Northwestern HS then they will one of the Top 15 or so classes....it not higher.

FSU and Miami are kicking butts and taking names on the recruiting trail this year, locking down a good chunk of Florida's top talent both in the north and in Broward/Dade. I think Mr. Brewster is the only Sunshine Stater in this class.

140!!!
Now that is the DEFINITION of the "shotgun" approach. It's cool, though. I like the "sniper rifle" approach. It feels like I already know a committment when he joins the Buckeye family. As opposed to another name on the list, another soldier in the army. |

Getting a florida offer in the mail is a lot like the sweepstakes contest. It's exciting when you're young and naive, but then you realize that so many others got the same pitch. How good of a shot do you have after all? Having seen a number of questionable offers extended to the midwest, I imagine the answer is 'quite slim' for many of those.
