Engineering School Rankin???
Not sure where anyone heard Barksdale chose LSU due to their undergraduate program in Engineering but I truly doubt that was the real reason. There were 3 schools in his home state in the top 50 that he chose to not attend. Two of those in the B10. Further OSU has a very good Engineering program. No idea why he is going to LSU, but it is not academics.

Look here:
'07 MI DT Joseph Barksdale (LSU signee)
This is the article where Joe refers to the academics playing in his decision.

It certainly was football, and LSU's fine engineering program, that grabbed Brennan's and his parents' attention.

You can read more in that article...not disagreeing with you at all, just letting you know where people are getting that from.
We are leaving the Barksdale thread closed for the time being...too many trollers still making waves.

95% of the time when a recruit says a school's academics were a deciding factor you can be certain he is full of it, unless they sign w/ Stanford or Vanderbilt over more powerful schools.

Those rankings are based on student reviews and have no credibility at all. USNews rankings are pretty much the standard in academic rankings. According to this, top three in engineering are MIT, Stanford and Berkeley. tOSU is in top 20 (among public universities). LSU's web-site says only three engineering programs are ranked with highest being 50, so they should be pretty low.

Here is a more complete list USNews' Engineering rankings.
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/gra...rank_brief.php
tsun is 6
OSU is 26
A slew of other B10 schools are listed as well, and LSU isn't in the top-50.
This is no surprise though -- as stxbuck noted -- unless a kid goes to a real academic powerhouse over a football powerhouse, academics probably had nothing to do with it.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
It's an oversimplification to say that anyone mining Ohio for football talent this year got the shaft.
There were plenty of nuggets to be found, just fewer true gems.
