Preferred Walk-Ons?

A friend of mine at Hilliard Davidson said that FB Bo Delande is a prefered walk-on at OSU. Can anyone confirm this?

Delande is a name I've heard as well...it still might be a little early to know who will be getting those spots.

Many kids are preferred walk ons. There will be a few regular walk ons that should be on the roster in the next few weeks. Keep checking the roster on www.ohiostatebuckyes.com .

The player is assured a spot on the team, however the university does ont have a scholarship available for that student. There isn't much difference between a preferred walk-on and a regular one. Some walk-ons from the last couple of years are Will Crall, Andrew Moses, Ben Kacsandi, Joe Gantz, Marcus Williams, Josh Kerr and Kyle Libby. I only remember Kerr and Moses having the "preferred" label, meaning their spots were guaranteed.

I believe Kerr has been on scholarship the whole time.

The benefit the preferred walk-ons have is (as Wade stated) a place on the 105-man roster and the opportunity to come to summer camp with the other freshmen. They have a relatively easier spot at sticking because they aren't fighting for a spot as much.

Normal walk-ons are guys whose names show up midseason on the roster, with no link to a bio. They are players not quite good enough to make a 105 man list but the staff is aware of them. They'll have to battle in the winter (against general students who can try out) to make the spring roster and then again in the summer when there are 3-5 preferred walk-ons coming in.

The totem pole is like this:
Preferred walk-ons: Trever Robinson, Antonio Smith, Kacsandi, Gentry, Potokar
Midseason additions: Tyler Whaley, Zach Slagle, Scott Sika
Walk-ons from general students: Derek Harden. I can't think of anyone else because they hardly ever make it past the spring game.

Like last year, there were a few Ohio State-bound players in the N-S and Cleveland's E-W game. Besides Delande, I don't know if these guys have been offered a preferred w-o slot or if they'll tryout once school starts (or if this is their final hurrah in pads).
