Two different teams. With Stanback they were a formidable team. Without him, not so much. And beating UCLA isn't exactly a good barometer of how good a team is.

Perhaps, but I didn't see Troy, or Krenzel, out there today for us. We'll see how both teams develop at the QB position.

What are you debating?

The record of the team isn't necessarily an effective way to judge the talent, or toughness, of a team.

Neither is judging a team based on one or two games. I wasn't debating anything. I was merely poking fun at daddyphatsac's comment of him being impressed by UW's victory over UCLA.

I think making a judgement on a team's performance against two tough opponents (one of which was a solid top-10 team and played in the previous two national title games) is just as good, if not better, barometer of that team's potential to spring an upset as it is using their overall record.

I'd much rather play a consistent 7-5, or even 8-4, team than a Jekyll-and-Hyde 5-7 team...

I don't consider UCLA a good team but I see your point. The thing is that Washington team that went toe-to-toe with USC on the road isn't anything like what we'll be seeing. They were dreadful without Stanback. The fact that we have to travel across the country to a hostile environment with a very young QB are the only reasons I think it'll be tough. Our talent, depth, and coaching are far superior to Washington's.

I'll stick by my earlier prediction of a whoopin' that the Buckeyes will be bringing to great northwest. The defense we are fielding this season is not one a veteran QB wants to go up against let alone a freshman be he a redshirt or not. The game will be low scoring first half maybe 13-3 Bucks but after we get lathered up the second half I see the final as 30-6. Its very early I know this, but I also know this game will not test us mentally like years past early games. We will be 8-0 going into our tough stretch PSU, Wisky and scum.

Agreed. I see our defense playing great, but I doubt our offense will be a very cohesive unit just three games into the season. I could see the final score being something like 17-10. (But how knows, I sure wouldn't mind it if our offense could manage to put up 30+ ).

Huskies better? Stop and think

The other day this Washington fan, demonstrating remarkable forbearance, told me he didn't expect Baby Jesus, er, quarterback Jake Locker to instantaneously transform the Huskies into a national title contender.
This guy said he'd be -- sigh -- reasonably satisfied with "seven or eight wins and a decent bowl game."
He expected a response, but it seemed best to bury my face in a foamy mug of Leffe Triple.
Time out for wisdom: If you can't think of anything nice to say, just gulp your beer.
The Huskies may well improve significantly in year three of the Tyrone Willingham era, but predicting five or more wins against what may be the nation's toughest schedule only means someone has exceeded their dosage of Zoloft while watching spring practices.

Our O won't be running like a well-oiled unstoppable machine, but it will still be explosive. Some 3-and-outs, along with some big plays. Not to mention a downright scary return game. I think a pac-10 D that is prone to the big play is just what we would like to go up against out there. they will get a big taste of Beanie in the 4th quarter, and they won't like it.

Wells, Small, and Jenkins seem like the leading candidates so far. Could change once the freshmen arrive.
