One of the gamblers reported: "Brewster can do all the rah-rah-rah he wants, but it's not him getting his ass kicked out there!"
To take it further, the analysts on BTN the other night said that Brewster was playing Ohio State up way too much. Comparing us to an AFC West team definitely qualifies as playing us up too much.
They said he's making the Bucks seem untouchable to his team.
This is making me rethink an impression I had just before the Purdue game. The sideline reporter semi-babe said that Brewster had told his defense to "try to play with some confidence". I thought that she must have misquoted him, as no one who rises to the level of D1 Head Coach can possibly be stupid enough to tell his team to TRY to play with confidence. That is incredibly demotivating at best.
After seeing his coach's show on BTN and seeing some other quotes from him about this Saturday's game; I now believe he's dumb enough to have said that.

One of the posters on GopherHole.com recently got back from what I assume is a pep-rally of sorts and got to meet with Brewster.
Just got back from the Gopher Nation Celebration...

He said there is no reason that high profile recruits from MN can't play at MN. They can and will help us make history again, he says.
He also said that he's got to get the defense playing better and in position, but the offense is hurting the defense too by giving up so many turnovers.
During the question and answer session, some people asked some interesting questions. Here are some highlights:
When asked how important it is to get the Axe back, he said that he understands that Minnesotans really hate Badgers and they really hate Hawkeyes. He said, "That coach at Wisconsin, I don't know how to pronounce his name, but I can tell you I don't like him. I think he's arrogant and I just don't like him. When we win the Axe back, I will be the first one running across the field to get it."

I don't really know the man so I'll save judgement for later, but DBB... perhaps your observations aren't so out of line...

Wow! Just ... wow.
Brewster sounds like a little Charlie Jr, promising to restore the 50s glory with his highly evolved, superior NFL mind.
His mouth is writing checks his players' bodies can't cash.

Ohio State football
Kick-coverage contingent steps up to get its licks in

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
David Foster | DISPATCH
Ohio State's Jamario O'Neal, center, lays a hit on Northwestern return man Sherrick McManis in the first half last weekend.
Five-foot-11 Brian Rolle might appear undersized for an Ohio State linebacker, but he said he makes up for it with speed and the willingness to collide.
"I'm probably one of the fastest on the team," Rolle said, laughing.
It's no joke to assistant coach Paul Haynes. It's one of the reasons he installed Rolle as the point man on the "Recon" team, the kickoff coverage unit.
"If you sat there and watched him on Recon, it looks like he is one of the faster guys," Haynes said.
Kickoff coverage is more important than ever because this season the spot for kicks was moved back 5 yards, to the 30, meaning fewer touchbacks and more returns. That's where Rolle -- a freshman with a knack for avoiding blockers on his way to the ball carrier -- and like-minded teammates have been making a difference for the eighth-ranked Buckeyes.

Sudden changes fail to derail Minnesota's Valentine
Friday, September 28, 2007 5:13 AM
By Bob Baptist
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
He was the first person Justin Valentine met at Minnesota in the summer of 2003.
"Roommates from day one," Valentine said. "We came in the room together. We didn't say too many words to each other, just, 'What's up,' and, 'See you on the field.' "
When Valentine saw his roommate, Brandon Owens, lying on the field two years later, he said his life changed. Owens, in a violent collision with Penn State quarterback Michael Robinson, suffered nerve damage in his neck that ended his football career. Two years later, it still restricts his use of his right arm. He has had two major surgeries, the most recent in June. He's moving on with his life as best he can.

They may not be able to cash the check, but that doesn't mean they won't pay for it anyways.
