OSU notebook: Laurinaitis switches focus to Purdue after trip home

James Laurinaitis' No. 33 jersey was a popular sight Saturday night in the Metrodome.
In the Metrodome stands Saturday night in Minneapolis, there appeared to be a favorite souvenir jersey number among the fans: Ohio State No. 33. There might have been more than 10,000 OSU fans among the announced crowd of 51,611, but Minnesota is James Laurinaitis country, even if he is Ohio State's junior All-America linebacker.
"I definitely didn't imagine that (sight) three years ago," Laurinaitis said, recalling when he signed with the Buckeyes out of the Minneapolis suburb of Hamel. "It has been kind of dream come true."

First of all, if you've never been to a Big Ten away game, expect a lot of abuse. Especially a night game at Purdue after 10 hours of alcohol flow into everyone. I was just there this weekend and was already hearing it about the buckeye game. They feel this year could be their revenge for the 2002 fourth down TD Krenzel threw. However, the abuse is usually in good fun, unlike Penn State.
I would definitely go to Harry's Chocolate Shop, it's an old speakeasy that's a local favorite (you'll see a lot of shirts that say "go ugly early" which according to legend was the password to get in during prohibition). I'm also a fan of Jake's and there are some good resturants. As for Purdue itself, the campus is huge. We park in the RV lot on west campus and it takes about 20-30 mins to walk to the stadium, then an additional 20-30 from stadium to bar area, then another 20-30 back to RV.

1. getting there is a bitch. the campus and the stadium are literally on the other side of the Wabash and you have to go through the burg to get to them.
2. traffic in and out of the place can back up very quickly and the interstate is flooded with Chicago - Indy traffic.
3. The stadium may be one of the worst in the nation. If you plan to tailgate first you might want to consider carrying along a gallon jug and a pilot's relief tube.

Actually, most of the U.S. is getting ND. I'm in Arkansas, and it's ND.

After watching the second half of the ND/PU game, I'm much less concerned with the Boilermakers. I think the Bucks win this game soundly.

I don't worry too much about criticism because if you're not tough enough to handle criticism, then you better get out of this game, because there's a whole lot of people that have interest in this game. And there's a whole lot of people that don't really have much understanding of what it takes to be good at this game but yet love to have opinions. Are you talking about "The Great ND Rally of '07"? Make no mistake, that wan't Purdue laying an egg in the 4th quarter, that was the mighty Notre Dame giant awaking from its slumber. We should be very fearful of Purdue this weekend.
