Due to the short-sightedness of the coaching staff, we get the fewest game reps for kick-off returns of any team in the country. The results speak for themselves.

I hope we can at least make a game out of it.

Clearly the solution is to allow the other team to score more often than 7.1 ppg, so our coverage unit has a chance to improve.

I know what you meant but...allowing the other team to score would be practicing our kick returns not coverage.

The proper joke here is how Charlie Weis is slyly planting the seeds for the next great CFB dynasty by getting his young kids all those KO return reps in South Bend. They will ride the number one kick return game in America to a return to glory...so on and so forth.

.....and in a year like this I feel we have one fundamental advantage over everyone else. Redemption is what fuels the fire for these guys. They were embarrassed on national TV, their ability has been, and still is, widely doubted. They have seen with their own eyes what happens when you stop feeling like you must improve, what complacency does to a team.

Nothing short of redemption in a NC game will due for this team imo. That automatically spells bad news for the Northwesterns, Purdues and Kent States of the world. They are all seen as a legitimate obstical to where these gusy want to go and are going to be dealt with accordingly from what we have seen so far.

I don't think they will let off the throttle untill the final whistle of the final game. Some weeks they will play better than others, and they still may very well lose a game somewhere but I would be willing to make a significant bet it won't be due to a lack of intensity or effort from this years team.

Good point. To be honest, the Bucks have been flying under the radar to this point. The media scrutiny will now begin in full force, particularly as the release of the first BCS standings is upcoming. Not that it means anything, but get ready for the talking heads to start finding faults with this team. You will hear questions about the strength of schedule, overall strength of the Big 10, is the offense good enough, the health of Wells and the impact on the offense,...not sure if I left anything out. Every little fault will be a topic of discussion. You're going to keep hearing - "Is Ohio State really that good?". To tell you the truth, I think that JT and the Bucks relish that role. As was stated earlier, that sense of gaining redemption, or a team on a mission, whatever you want to call it, will drive this team - no matter who the opponent is.

Well, it worked for Northwestern. After the first half against us, their Kick Return unit was in a groove to start the second half.

Kick return for a TD? Check.
Safety? Check.
Garbage time TD with under a minute to play? Check.

How do we manage to screw up the shutout this week?

I heard that JT said he had no plans to sit Beanie out for this game. I hope he reconsiders and gives him an extra week to let that ankle rest and strengthen.
Mo Wells has been much improved this year and is really running hard, but we need Beanie to be able to carry the ball 25 - 30 times vs PSU, IL, and scUM.

Beanie had something like 18 carries against Purdue, and he will probably get that range or so this week. He's still developing as a player, so you can't deprive him of having any reps at all, whether in games or practice. If he were a senior, that might be a different story.

Saine didn't see many carries this week (2? 3?), so it will be nice to see him getting back in the groove with a few more against Kent.
