Wisconsin WR Swan out for season
Wisconsin WR Swan out for season
Quote:
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin wide receiver Luke Swan will miss the rest of the season because of a torn hamstring and is scheduled for surgery Wednesday.
The fifth-year senior had two touchdowns this season for the No. 19 Badgers and was averaging 18 yards a catch. He was hurt near the end of Saturday's game against Illinois, landing awkwardly following a 17-yard reception.
Swan's loss is a blow to the Badgers (5-1, 2-1 Big Ten) following the team's first defeat of the season against Illinois. Freshman punt returner David Gilreath is expected to replace Swan at wide receiver.
"Luke is a great kid," coach Bret Bielema said Monday. "It was a hard day yesterday. It is tough for everybody."
In six games this season, Swan had 25 catches for 451 yards and was the Badgers' top receiver.

Damn, that sucks. Injuries suck, even for our opponents.

Yep never like to hear about this kind of thing. So does this mean his college career is over or can he apply for a medical redshirt?

I don't know what the playing time threshold is if there is any, but chances are his college career is done since has played in every game for the Badgers so far this year....

I believe the "Threshold" is a quarter of a season. (IE - 3 games) He's played 6 games so I don't think there is any way he gets a medical redshirt season.
He made some big 3rd down and long catches against Illinois. Seemed to be fearless over the middle. Huge loss for the Badgers.

They aren't very good anyway but now they will be without their #2 WR and #2 RB when they come to Columbus. Also, IIRC they lost a DE/DT as well and PJ Hill has significantly tweaked a groin injury. Those don't just go away in the midst of a B10 season, I don't think he can be at 100% the rest of the way.
Not looking good for the Badgers.
