Indeed it is.

Especially when you consider all the big, slow plodding players he's done it with and the fact he gets beat by 80 points everytime we face a team that runs the spread or has a mobile QB. We could very well soon be playing for our third NC in 6 years because JT is just that lucky.

If we held a game between this year's Buckeye 3rd string and Yost's best team it would be a blowout for tOSU. The only thing that would prevent it from being Georgia Tech v. Cumberland College would be because Tressel chose to show mercy. (I'm so glad he told them to take a knee at the end of this year's Game. Anyone who claims that the 86-0 game in 1902 has anything to do with the current teams is being and obtuse jerk.

My point is that Those Fans Up North may not just be grasping for straws or trying to obfuscate the arguments when they point to Yoovem's broader history. They just have a different psychology about these things. For a lot of students and alumni I've met, the current season is evaluated on the basis of how well it upholds their tradition of winning, almost as much as it is judged on what bowl game it will land them in. In fact since their stadium, uniforms, and coaching staff have barely changed in decades, there may be a few of them how do think it's still 1968.

It's like those tribal wars that happen in second and third world countries that are largely caused by people projecting past conflicts onto modern times. If somebody from an enemy tribe said to you "Because your grandfather's grandfather stole a pig from my grandfather's grandfather, we are enemies," your response would probably be something like "OMG, dude! WTF? That was a hundred years ago it has nothing to do with us. I have never done anything to you. Why should we be enemies? We live in modern times, I've even learned AIM-speak. ROFL." They aren't being selectively ignorant of recent years. They just think abut these things in different terms.

If scUM sniffs the top-10 in the preseason until they actually win something...

#1 NoD, they're on a 2 game winning streak, knocking off basketball powers Duke and Stanford.
#2 scUM, if Miles can lose just 2 per year with the talent Saben left him, imagine what he can do with what Llloyd is leaving.
#3 NoD's 2009 recruiting class, no explination needed
#4-#15 the SEC

Tsun will probably be 10th-15th based on recruiting next year, NoD will be high because of their recruiting class but I think they will be slightly below tsun, you can expect tOSU, Florida, USC, Georgia, Illinois, West Va, and Oklahoma, Misery, or Texas (Maybe two of the three) to be in the top 10.

I say that "we" are playing for "our" third NC in six years anyway. In 2003, Southern Cal was third in the BCS rankings heading into the bowl season, and they knocked off a 10-2 Michigan team in the Rose Bowl to earn the AP title. No reason why the Buckeyes can't do the same thing this season by winning the Rose Bowl against a 10-2 Southern Cal team, who were the overwhelming preseason favorites to win it all in 2007.

If that scenario plays out, then there has to be at least some serious doubt as to which team is the best in 2007: an Ohio State team that beat the unanimous preseason #1 and perennial media darling in the Rose Bowl, or the winner of Mizzou-WVU contest.

I think that regardless of who wins ANY game from here out, there will be serious doubt as to who the best team in the country is. If LSU wins today, and wins their bowl game, I think all the fans of SEC teams will insist that they are the best team. If USC wins today and their bowl game, a large group of people will insist that they are the best team. With your scenario, a lot of people will jump on the Ohio State train. Of course, there will be a group of people behind the winner of West Virginia and Missouri. Or if Missouri loses today, I think a lot of people will be behind Oklahoma.

I think as far as credibility goes, if we beat USC in the Rose Bowl, the nation will give us more credit than if we beat WVU in the NC. It'll be easy for the media to say WVU was overrated and therefore we aren't the best team even if we beat them. USC on the other hand, as stated earlier, they're the media darling and the preseason #1. It'll be difficult for anyone to doubt OSU if we beat them. Sounds crazy that not playing for the national championship may actually benefit the Bucks from a respect standpoint. Now a NC...I'll take that anyway...heck with the doubting talking heads!!!
