It depends on the nature of the loss. Maybe.
O can trecall numerous times where one highly ranked FL team lost to another highly tanked FL team, and if they played them tough and the game went down to the wire, they not only would not be punished by the media and polls, but woudl be more highly regarded than before and not suffer for the loss.
Of course, I'm not going to hold my breath that we get the same treatment.
Hopefully, it won't matter anyway and we can beat USC at their place.

It didn't make me feel better, it didn't make me think more or less of Ohio State and it's accomplishments. All it did was make me say to myself, "Good. Maybe my time on the internet won't be quite as annoying"
As I said on some other thread, I used to be very different in this respect. I thought conferences superiority arguments had some merit or value or whatever, but over time I've come to realize the "top tier" ones are all the same, more or less. Up one year, or years, down others. And, again, I just can't see how whatever conference one's team is in means squat. A win for Michigan over Florida was a win for Michigan, not the Big Ten or Ohio State. A loss by Michigan State to Boston College didn't hit me in the gut. It wasn't a loss for the Big Ten. It's an arbitrary grouping. That's all.

Two words: inferiority complex.
The SEC and the French have this in common. (j/k Gatorbet )
It's difficult for the Union to understand that mindset.

When you're arguably the best conference out there, you tend to have pride. As an LSU fan, I WANT the SEC to have the best bowl record so I root for all the SEC teams, yes even Chopblock U. I've looked around various SEC boards and when they all saw the LSU players chanting "SEC! SEC!", they all took pride too. It may seem odd for another school to chant it but we were the SEC Champs and so we have more of right to chant it than say, South Carolina or Arkansas. I thought it was awesome that we can have conference pride at a time when no one else does.

I've gone on record before saying that I don't root for my rivals, and I stand by that one. Yeah, I'm happy the SEC posted a 7-2 record, but there was no way in hell you could have talked me in to "cheering" for Auburn. If given the choice A. Pull for Auburn in a non-conference game or B. Have my wife kidnapped, well I'm gonna miss my wife for a little while, but I'd be able to sleep peacefully with my decision.
