The Perry Panthers cruised to an easy 79-32 victory over visiting St. Thomas Aquinas Saturday behind a 19-point, 9-rebound performance from senior center Kenny Frease.

Anthony Capuano had a big game for the Panthers, tallying 14 points, five assists, and three steals in the win, Perry?s first of the season. Trey Thomas added 13 points and nine boards for the Panthers.

Perry ‘D’ shuts down Falcons

PERRY TWP. Kenny Frease finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots to help the Panthers win a Federal League matchup.

Perry led, 24-9, at halftime, holding the Falcons to just eight field goals for the game.

Anthony Capuano added 11 points and six assists for the Panthers.

Frease has big night

YOUNGSTOWN Perry center Kenny Frease celebrated recently eclipsing 1,000 career points by coming up with a triple-double.

The 7-foot senior had 29 points, 17 rebounds and 11 blocked shots. Frease pushed his career point total to 1,050.

PERRY TWP. The campaigning is over.

The Perry Panthers? last statement before tournament voting begins came in the form of a loud 69-45 win Saturday against visiting Massillon on Senior Night.

Today, the coaches from the Canton Division I district will meet at Copley to choose the bracket?s seeding. Perry boys basketball coach Rob Toth knows how he?ll cast his ballot.

?I?m going to vote us No. 1,? Toth said after 7-foot center Kenny Frease tied his career high with 33 points and the Panthers snapped an eight-game losing streak to Massillon in front of 2,100 fans.

The Panthers, who allowed 26 points to Boardman in a win Friday, led Saturday from the start. Frease hit 15-of-22 shots from the field and grabbed 13 rebounds.

BLACKOUT DELAYS END OF FITCH-PERRY GAME At Perry Township, high winds led to a blackout that forced postponement of the final 7:02 of Perry's Federal League boys high school basketball quarterfinal game against Austintown Fitch. The Panthers were leading, 37-20, when the postponement took place. The remainder of the game will be played tonight at 6 at Perry. "The power had already gone off three times in the second half," Perry coach Rob Toth said. "After the fourth time, the police told us it wouldn't be coming back on again for quite a while. Our whole neighborhood here was dark." No admission will be charged for tonight's contest.

Coach's call to Perry's Frease could cost Indiana
Star basketball player did not violate NCAA rules

PERRY TWP. When an NCAA lawyer whisked into town Jan. 14 and sat down at Perry High School, Kenny Frease wasn't exactly comfortable. A high-profile basketball recruit never wants a visit from the NCAA.

"I was kind of nervous," Frease said. "But he was cool, and he made it easier to talk to him."

An NCAA report released Wednesday says Indiana men's basketball Coach Kelvin Sampson violated restrictions between May 2006 and May 2007 by illegally contacting recruits. One of those violations concerns phone calls made to Frease.

In all, the NCAA levied five major violations against Sampson and Indiana.

The Perry 7-foot senior, who has since committed to Xavier University, was told he didn't do anything wrong. The NCAA just needed answers.

As it relates to Frease, Sampson violated his yearlong phone ban when former Hoosiers assistant Rob Senderoff called Frease, then handed the phone to Sampson. Senderoff has since resigned.

Perry allowed 9 second-half points and gave the Falcons a big dose of Kenny Frease to thwart any thoughts of an upset in Wednesday's sectional final.

"We just challenged them at halftime, 'Hey, you've got 16 minutes of basketball left in your season. Is this the way you want to go out?'" Perry coach Rob Toth said. "We came out with some very good defensive effort and we executed better offensively."

Perry's first play of the second half ended in a dunk from Frease. The 7-foot senior scored 16 of his game-high 20 points after halftime to go with 11 rebounds. Fitch used a box-and-1 to limit Frease in the first half. Every time he touched it, three Falcons surrounded him.

CANTON The sweat from another chest-clutcher with Hoover hadn't stopped rolling down the faces of the Perry Panthers when head coach Rob Toth delivered his message.

"We're refocusing right now," Toth told his team moments after the Panthers eked out a 49-46 win in Thursday's Division I boys high school basketball district semifinal at Memorial Civic Center. "We are not done."

Frease's 16 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots.

Why didn't he have the top schools after him? I understand OSU had Mullen but, he's really coming on now and I bet he's gone after next year if not this year. Xavier never had a true center as far as I remember, just a bunch of PF'S. I saw him a few times in high school and I could tell he was going to be a good one but , not this good for a freshman

xaxier does a great job developing players like Tyrone Hill, Posey and few others that are still in the NBA. Those type of players were considered the second or third option if they didn't get what they wanted . A bad miss of those schools. lol I wonder how long the coach will stay. Gillen and few others moved on. Can't remember Duncan/odia .

Miller turned down Marquette, Indiana and various BCS offers and is making over a million dollars a year right now so I think he's in it for the long haul. Xavier is better job than many BCS ones. They've the elite 8 twice in the past five years which Duke hasn't done.

thats great. I love that xavier/cincy battle. Didn't know Miller did all that. Thxs. What do u think of Frease and Raymond?
