That is the good news, but Frease still has a blowout fracture of the right orbital bone and a broken medial and inferior wall – both bones near the eye – and could possibly undergo a pair of surgeries after being struck by Central Catholic senior guard Cory Berry during a physical contest between two backyard rivals.

"Basketball is a tough sport, it is a contact sport, football is a contact sport, we've even been in situations where there have been fights in baseball fields, too. It's something we generally get involved in but in a case like this, there's people who feel it was an intentional act, and we're going to look into it," said Perry Township Police Chief Tim Escola.

Charges sought in injury

Perry police examine if game tussle was crime

MASSILLON - Perry police Chief Tim Escola spent a half-hour in Massillon Assistant Prosecutor John Simpson's office Monday afternoon talking high school boys basketball.
Escola's approach wasn't from a fan's standpoint but rather a legal one.
Sunday morning, Escola was given a tape by Perry coach Rob Toth of his team's game against Canton Central Catholic the previous night. Escola's focus while watching the tape Sunday morning and reviewing it with Simpson on Monday was a play in the third quarter.
Perry's Kenny Frease, a 7-foot center gaining national recruiting interest, sustained two broken bones in his face and was experiencing double-vision. Canton Central Catholic senior shooting guard Cory Berry hit Frease as the two contested a rebound during the game at Central Catholic's gymnasium in Perry Township.

PERRY TWP. His right eye remains swollen shut. An already tumultuous junior season at Perry High School may have ended.
Kenny Frease, though, could not help but smile when his basketball teammates greeted him Monday afternoon for the first time since suffering serious facial injuries in a game Saturday. "They're in the middle of practice, and coach (Rob) Toth lets them stop practice and come over and see him," said Marge Frease, Kenny's mom. "You could just see all the emotion and everyone staring at that big, old black eye. But you could see everyone cared about him, and it was wonderful for him."

Frease recently visited Kentucky and now has them tied with Xavier on the top of his list followed by Michigan and Notre Dame.

i see the video, but its so small i cant really make out exactly what happened. personally i dont think sports and criminal charges should go together, the line has become so blurred though. i dont know what to think from what i saw there.

best of lucky kenny, i for one hope and wish for a fulle and quick recovery.

Central Catholic stands behind senior after rival is injured during game

Canton Central Catholic coaches are hoping a professionally enhanced video clip will clear the name of their senior basketball star, who is accused of severely injuring a rival team's center.
Crusaders coach Kevin Finefrock and assistant coach Dave Oates unveiled the video clip at a Tuesday afternoon news conference at the high school.

Police, prosecutor investigating basketball injury

MASSILLON, Ohio (AP) ? A hard play or an assault ? that's what authorities are trying to figure out after looking at film of a player being injured during a high school basketball game last weekend.
"They were going up for the ball and one guy got cracked in the eye," Perry Township Police Chief Timothy Escola said Tuesday. "Was it intentional or an accident? It's very hard to tell looking at tape."
Kenny Frease of Massillon Perry was injured midway through the third quarter of his team's 68-54 win Saturday at Canton Central Catholic.
