It's likely Rayshawn Goins will never again miss four foul shots in the last 19 seconds of a one-point game and yet emerge as a hero.
"I saw it was going to be short, so my instinct was to go after the ball," said Goins, who rebounded his own missed free throw and fed Nicholas Harney for the decisive basket in Glenville's 68-67 boys basketball win over Shaker Heights on Thursday night.
"I saw two defenders come at me. I dumped the ball backdoor to Nick, and he finished. It felt great, like we won the state championship."
Goins scored 25 points and grabbed 22 rebounds for the Tarblooders, who are 8-0 and ranked third in The Plain Dealer's seven-county poll. Host Shaker Heights, ranked seventh, fell to 5-3 with the nonleague loss before a standing-room crowd. The Raiders' 6-1 junior point guard, Anthony Wells, made 13 of 19 field-goal attempts, including five 3-point shots, to score 31.
Goins, a senior forward with a deft shooting touch, is averaging 29 points and 12 rebounds.

I think near the end of last season he had a philosophical or personal problem with the coach at Rhodes and I think that is one of the reasons he transferred. If you would have stayed at Rhodes, they would have had a very good team this year. If you are familiar with Cleveland schools, going from Rhodes to Glenville is going from the furthest NW quadrant to the furthest SE quadrant of a large city. That is one reason why I do not like open enrollment. With that being said, I have no idea where Goins is headed.
