Agreed...a surprising choice and timing. I would have at least taken a trip to see the Ohio State/Michigan game.

Mississippi State has been with him the longest and sometimes that wins out in a recruits mind.....the staff got in on Hopson late and we really never had a chance.

Late?
Wow. I would hate to be a college basketball coach today. When a player's junior year before basketball season is late.
I remember Wanstedt talking about this when he started coaching at Pitt. Kids being offered as sophmores and juniors. What happens if they just grew early and are done.
Some of the early offerings is getting ridiculous.

Scotty Hopson, 6-6, F, Hopkinsville, Ky.
Summer team: Mid-State Ballers (no sponsor)
Schedule: LeBron Academy, AAU 19-and-unders
Skinny: Hopson may have been the player who raised his stock the most at the USA Basketball Festival. He's a dynamic swingman who jumps out of the gym and has both long-range and mid-range touch. (That mid-range game is a dying art, but Hopson is an artist at it.) Hopson has committed to Mississippi State, and I'm guessing that by the end of the summer he will have positioned himself to be a McDon

Hopson is looking at other schools and weighing his options. At the hoopfest this past weekend, Hopson scored 24 points in a win. Tennessee, Louisville and Kentucky have recently offered and Indiana, Georgia and Georgia Tech have contacted his coach.
Note: Changing thread title to soft verbal.

It's been a huge week for University Heights Academy senior Scotty Hopson, who is considered one of the Class of 2008's top unsigned basketball players nationally.
The 6-foot-7 Hopson was named a McDonald's All American on Tuesday, and on Thursday he was the only Kentuckian named a Jordan Brand Classic All-Star.
Later Thursday, Hopson scored 37 points in a Senior Night win over Fourth Region power Warren Central.
Hopson played that night in front of University of Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie, Mississippi State coach Rick Stansbury and assistant coaches from Tennessee and Cincinnati.
