Dumes talk about his season and his style of play (combo guard). Started his career at Eastern Michigan and is has narrowed his next college choices down to UTEP, Colorado, Ohio State, Alabama, and Arkansas.

Gotta believe he would come in at Point and share ball handling duties with Turner. He definitely would help bring Crater along slowly, along with P.J. Hill too... whom I was impressed with towards the end of the year. Sounds like he's got a nice shot, so we'll need his shooting too since Turner and Lighty are so-so beyond the arc.

Dumes is a combo guard.....can score from the perimeter and has above average skills handling the ball........could be a good fit and provide depth at the point guard position next year.

I really don't see Turner sharing ballhandling duties with any PG anymore than he has in the recent couple of games. He is not a natural PG. I think if we do not get Dumes or Holloway the PG will be manned between Hill/Crater. It would be nice to have someone who is more of a offensive threat from the outside to pick up on some of what Butler will leave.

I think you will see an improvement in Turner's and Lighty's outside shooting next year now that they both have another year of college basketball behind them with a lot of practice time before next season.

I think I worded that wrong, my bad. I meant to say Turner will help out Dumes, since Dumes doesn't seem anymore of a "true" point than Butler is.

Turner looked good throughout the NIT tourney. I'm starting to doubt whether Lighty is ever going to develop a consistent jumper. Another shooter to add to the mix would definately help. If they don't get another PG, I could see Turner getting some minutes @ the point from the way he hangled the rock more during the NIT. Diebler needs to get his head right in the off-season. I think his issue is of the mental kind not physical. Any film on Dumes?

We heard last night that coach Thad Matta has offered his only open scholarship for next season to Devon Dumes, a 6-foot-2 combo guard from Indianapolis who has two years of eligibility remaining after playing as a freshman at Eastern Michigan and this past season at Vincennes University, an Indiana junior college.
We?re still waiting for Vincennes coach Everick Sullivan to return a call, but in the meantime, two Web sites have confirmed the offer, and one, Rivals.com, spoke with Dumes.
Dumes said he has visited Texas-El Paso and Colorado and plans to visit Ohio State, Alabama and Arkansas before the spring signing period begins April 16.
Regarding Ohio State, he said he likes the fact he could compete for the starting point guard position, that the Buckeyes have ?a great supporting cast? returning and that it?s close to home.

I like the idea of bringing in a combo guard that has college experience and can help out some at the point, score some, shoot the ball well, and play good defense. From the picture he looks like he is physically ready to play...

Honestly I think this has a lot to do with Offut situation...We have Hill and Crater to run the point, but neither do much scoring from the point position and if teams want to slack off them, they won't be able to do that guarding Dumes...It is also back up for if Crater or Hill were to struggle, or maybe to bring them along as Dumes could be the best of all three, not ever seeing him play...

Smart move by Matta and he won't effect the scholarship plan for the 10' as he will be gone and they weren't planning on more than 2 in 09' anyways...

Update on recruit Devan Dumes
I finally made contact today with Vincennes University coach Everick Sullivan, who had been away at the Final Four in San Antonio.

He confirmed that guard Devan Dumes has an offer from Ohio State and that he plans to visit campus, but Sullivan said he has not yet been in touch with Ohio State coaches to schedule it.

Vincennes sports information director Dave Hunter also called to say that the media guide misspelled Dumes? first name and that the correct spelling includes an ?a? instead of an ?o? and is pronounced DEV-in. His last name is pronounced DOO-mus.

Dumes also is considering Texas-El Paso, Colorado, Alabama and Arkansas. Sullivan said Indiana has made inquiries since Tom Crean was hired as head coach last week.

Matta has one scholarship available for next season; Koufos? departure would make two. The only other recruit Ohio State is known to be targeting is 6-2 sophomore Devin Dumes of Vincennes (Ind.) University. Contrary to previous reports, though, Matta has not offered a scholarship to either Dumes or Harrellson. Wallenberg, citing information he received from a team official, said no scholarships have been offered to any recruits this spring.

Recruiting update: Dumes No.1, Simmons No.2?

Vincennes (Ind.) guard Devan Dumes told Rivals.com last night that he will take an official visit to Ohio State this weekend, leaving one to conclude that the one scholarship coach Thad Matta has available for next season is Dumes? for the taking.

If the staff really wants him and he is number one on their board...i think they may get a commit this weekend...

If they don't like the article says I expect them to go after Simmons...I honestly think the Simmons situation is better, but they must really like Dumes and I am fine with what the staff likes...
