Video. My Take: Brandon gets downhill fast and shows decent instinct. Not sure if he is a tOSU quality LB though...hate to pass a judgment based on this small film, but it did not blow me away. Last edited by osugrad21; 10-10-2006 at 12:10 PM. |

...any injury bad enough to limit him so much would likely put him on the sideline. Injuries may limit a player somewhat but they rarely mask the attributes that separate top tier talent from the others.

The kid can play...I'm just not yet sure he is tOSU-caliber. No knock on him at all. Last edited by osugrad21; 10-12-2006 at 06:30 AM. |

Brandon Beachum (44 yards, 1 TD) also ran well, which was due in no small part to the Cardinals' offensive line. |

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL ROUNDUP Youngstown Mooney blanks CVCA, 28-0 Saturday, November 04, 2006 From staff reports Youngstown Mooney followed up its first undefeated regular season in 40 years by blanking Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, 28-0, Friday night in the first round of the high school football playoffs. Top-seeded Mooney broke a scoreless tie in the Division IV, Region 13 quarterfinal during the second quarter when junior running back Brandon Beachum scored on a 2-yard run. It was the first of three second-quarter touchdowns for the Cardinals, last year's Division IV state runner-up. The game was played at Youngstown State's Stambaugh Stadium. Mooney, which is in the playoffs for the 20th time, gained 274 yards on the ground. The Cardinals (10-0) have outscored their opponents, 306-91, this season. |

On Mooney's first possession of the second half, Beachum scored on a 9-yard run. Mooney off and running The Cardinals opened the playoffs with a 28-0 win over Cuyahoga Valley Academy. By TOM WILLIAMS VINDICATOR SPORT STAFF YOUNGSTOWN ? Linebacker Mike McGlone's career-high eight points combined with backup halfback Brandon Beachum's two touchdowns were more than enough to get the Mooney High football team rolling towards another long playoff run. McGlone capped a wild conversion score then blocked a punt and picked up the ball for a touchdown as Mooney (10-0) opened the Division IV Region 13 playoffs Friday with a 28-0 victory over Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy at Youngstown State University's Stambaugh Stadium. "To be honest that's the first time I've scored in high school," McGlone said. "It was cool." Beachum said being undefeated in November "is a great feeling. We had a tough season so I think we are well-prepared for the postseason." Injury-riddled season Beachum said injuries have made his season a difficult one. He suffered a deep thigh bruise week before the season began and a bad foot sprain in Week 3, causing him to sit out the Harding game. "Obviously, the team didn't lose a beat," said Beachum of the win over their Steel Valley Conference rivals. " We did really well and I slowly rehabbed it and worked my way back into the rotation." Beachum, who said he doesn't yet feel as well as he did before the foot sprain, added that it doesn't matter who starts in the backfield. "I don't have a problem with coming off the bench because I don't look at it as he's starting over me or I'm starting over him," Beachum said. "It's just that I'm relieving him when he needs a break or he relieves me when I need a break." |

11/22 Film. My Take: Much more impressed with Brandon in this set of films. He shows good instincts, covers ground well with good angles, and seems like a better than average tackler. He will need to work on his scraping technique as right now he is just beating lesser competition to the spot...good stuff which shows his instinct but the next level OL will not simply be beaten like that. Also, while he did show glimpses of explosion on contact, he also had some clips where he caught the runner and dragged him down instead of blowing him up. Overall, this film definitely gave me a better impression of Brandon and his possibilities at tOSU. |
