Hopefully, this type of effort will lead to that offer:
Canton Rep SMARTY PANTS South junior standout DeVoe Torrence earned four As and two Bs in the first nine weeks, taking classes such as Chemistry and Algebra II. "I mean, he's not taking basket weaving," Daniska said. |

Scouting Ohio
Video My Take: Wow is about all I can say. This kid is so smooth and has great ability. A lot of his clips are of him running the ball, but that is not where he is going to end up in college. His defensive clips show him filling the hole knocking people out or working down the line and running the rb down. You can see that his frame can easily hold weight, and you would think not lose his speed. He has future MLB written all over him. Also after watching this, I put him only behind Martin, Clifford, and Saine in terms of players in Ohio. |

Didn't he train with Butch Reynolds before he took the S&C job at OSU?

Just to clarify, Butch Reynolds is the "Speed Coordinator"...Eric Lichter is the S&C coach (or Director of Performance, as he is officially known).

H.S. football playoffs: Tall order for South Thursday, November 9, 2006 By JOSH WEIR REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER CANTON SOUTH VS. STEUBENVILLE Division III, Region 11 semifinal Saturday, 7 p.m. Mount Union Stadium, Alliance RADIO WCER-AM 900 CANTON TWP. Moe Daniska used to torture himself with visits to Paul Farrah's playoff practices at Louisville. An assistant with Canton South at the time, all Daniska could do was watch as the Leopards prepared for the excitement of postseason football. "You get a little envious," said Daniska, now the head coach of the Canton South High School football team. No need anymore. Daniska's Wildcats went on the road and beat Licking Valley, 27-17, last week, earning the school's first-ever playoff victory. Licking Valley hadn't lost at home since 1999. Canton South's prize is defending Division III state champion Steubenville. The Wildcats (8-3) meet the Big Red on Saturday at Mount Union Stadium in a regional semifinal, starting at 7 p.m. "You step out of the flames and into the fire," Daniska said. Steubenville (11-0), the winner of four consecutive AP state poll titles, is on a 26-game winning streak. The Big Red completed their fourth straight 10-0 season. Steubenville is a mini Massillon, where football is king and tradition is rich. Of course tradition didn't help Licking Valley last week, and veteran Steubenville coach Reno Saccoccia isn't banking on tradition to carry his team. "It helps during the offseason, and it's something to talk about, but I don't think it wins us any games during those 48 minutes we're on the field," Saccoccia said. "Players are the ones that win games. If they win, then they can add to the tradition." The Big Red win with a stingy defense and a balanced offense. Senior Zach Collaros leads as the quarterback and a four-year starting defensive back. He's never lost in two years as the starting QB. Plenty of star power surrounds him with tailback Tamawi McGhee and receiver Maurice Bougard. Stopping Steubenville - which breezed past New Concord John Glenn, 26-10, without three starters last week - will be no picnic. The Wildcats limited Licking Valley and sophomore sensation Storm Klein, but the challenge this week is much greater. "Not taking anything away from Licking Valley, but we felt if we could stuff their running game and make them throw the ball, we'd be in really good shape," Daniska said. "But with Steubenville, they do everything well." South does plenty well, too. Brothers DeVoe and Devon Torrence are two-way terrors. Devon is verbally committed to Ohio State. Mike McKinney, Ryan Jialanella, AJ McAbier and Terrance Evans are part of a fast, aggressive defense. "I had just heard about (Devon Torrence), but after watching film, they have a good team with good athletes, their lines work hard and they have a defense that runs to the ball," Saccoccia said. "I think it's a football team that's lived in the shadow of the recruiting of one player. He's definitely one of their best players, but that's a good team overall with a good coaching staff." The Wildcats' only other playoff appearance was 1987, a first-round loss to Akron Buchtel. By beating Steubenville, they can tie the school record for wins in a season (9), set by Don Nehlen's crew in 1962. The Wildcats believe in themselves. Now they are trying to change the mindset of the Canton South community. "I don't think we've done it yet," Devon Torrence said. "We still have a little bit more work to do. But I think it's coming." "We're trying to start a whole new foundation for years to come," senior two-way lineman Josh Neff said. "We don't even think about the past anymore. We're thinking about what's to come." Daniska doesn't think South is satisfied yet. "That win last week put our players in history at Canton South. No one can ever take that away from them," Daniska said. "Now we want to be a little greedy. It's down to 16 teams. Canton South is 1-0. Steubenville is 1-0. Someone has to win it. Why not us?" |

devoe had 6 carries for 10 yards last night. he is a better lb then running back. he had alot of tackles last night but they were pretty much all down the feild as big red's running back averaged over 9 yards a carry.
let me be the first to see it on here. OSU SHOULD BE RECRUITING ZACH COLLAROS AND TAMAWAI MCGEE. they were by far the best football players on the feild. |
