No, for several reasons: (1) Long is too talented; (2) this staff doesn't head in "different directions", they wait for the kids they want, until the kid elects to go elsewhere (in other words, they don't play the Texas game of "commit or else"); (3) it would be really bad PR to hotly pursue Howie Long's son, then drop him once a couple of other kids verbal.

If anything has changed, it has changed on Kyle's end (and I'm not saying that anything has changed).

My question is, if FSU offered for baseball and jumped into the lead, can we offer baseball as an option also, and maybe he'd consider wearing long sleeves to pitch??

The problem with that scenario is that the second he suits up for gridiron he counts against football limits. Offer what you want - but in the end playing 2 sports that schollie counts against the larger squad.

I guess I meant bring him in as a football schollie, and let him pitch if he wants to. If he plays college baseball at all, it may mean good things for football. Meaning, if baseball works out for him, he may be a pro pitcher before too long, and would skip the college route altogether. It would just be nice to ensure for him that, as an alternative to football, the OSU baseball team would also welcome you.

OSU can't offer what FSU can in baseball. If baseball is his first love, he's not going to give OSU much of a thought. And I wouldn't blame him one bit.

If he gets drafted high enough, I don't think he'll be playing for any college, so it may be a moot point...

Absolutely. But FSU can't offer what a pro baseball contract can offer either. That's all I'm saying, that if he's that good at baseball, then FSU probably isn't sitting too much better than we are. If it comes to a decision, then FSU football doesn't seem like too bad of a fall back option, I guess

from what I've read the guy from the BlockO that Long is tight with is Brewster......if he can't get it done, no one can.

It could mean at least three things: (1) Long is definitely in, and Jenkins would be the fifth member of "Block O"; (2) Long is definitely out, and Jenkins would be the fourth member of "Block O"; or (3) Long is irrelevant to "Block O" because he will play a different position such as defensive end.

It could also mean that Shugarts made an off the cuff comment and forgot to mention Kyle. Remember, these kids have little or no experience giving a press conference, and even pros like Tony Snow (White House Press Secretary and former journalist) can make a slip up every once in a while.

Don't read too much into such quotes. Besides, the main point of Shugart's statement is that he is actively recruiting blue chip players to Ohio State.

I think it is either or in college for Kyle... I don't see him being able to play both and stay at his natural position (pitcher)... The weightlifting that he'd have to do as an OL or DL in college would not be conducive to the types of muscles that pitchers build...
