4. Kyle Long, defensive tackle, St. Anne's-Belfield. He's already bigger than 'big brother' Chris Long, who started as a sophomore defensive end for UVa. His development over the next two seasons will determine if he's as heavily recruited.

A poster on BN that started the Long talk claims that Kyle has an OSU verbal offer and that UVA offered him in his 8th grade year. He also said that he knows the UVA program well but is enamored by OSU, as is his dad Howie Long . Should be one to keep an eye on and he sure passes the looks test.

UVA may be tough to beat in this one. Kyle Long's high school is all of about 2 miles, as the crow flies, from UVA's Scott Stadium.

If my memory serves me correctly, however, I think his football coach is from Ohio and follows Ohio State. It's been a few years, and I was enjoying a few adult beverages, but I'm pretty sure his coach joined our little Ohio State alumni gathering at a BW3s in Charlottesville to take in an Ohio State game, and was telling me about Ohio State's recruitment of Chris Long when he was a senior in high school.

FWIW, Chris Long is already a stud at UVA.

Just wanted to let you know that Kyle recently took a trip to Notre Dame. It appears that the Irish will be jumping into this race, too.

Kid does look like a top tier kid and I believe he wants to play baseball in college, too. He was All-Conference and All-District at OT as a sophomore.

I thought so as well but it appears OSU is in very good shape now. Doesn't hurt that Howie really likes OSU and that's good news if his coach is an OSU fan.

Is there any insight on why Howie Long is so high on tOSU as a program?

Specifically the O-line to NFL production? The general way Tressel runs the team, looking for good people as well as good athletes? The tradition? Something other than the above?
