Big Reds' Jenkins leads '08 brigade of prospects
It?s like the song that never ends. (And if I just lodged that in your head, I sincerely apologize.)
College football recruiting, I mean. The national letter-of-intent signing day just passed ? and the new cycle has already started.
Within West Virginia?s state lines, it?s much of the same. A handful of Division I prospects. But prospects who can prove to be a handful.
That?s especially true in the case of the Mountain State?s No. 1 prospect, Parkersburg offensive lineman Josh Jenkins, who has already committed to West Virginia University.
Jenkins certainly has the size at 6-foot-5, 300 pounds. But his athleticism has popped eyes across the nation.
?Very few 300-pounders can move like he can,?? said PHS coach Bernie Buttrey.
Jenkins is almost sure to become only the second player in tradition-rich Parkersburg history to be a Class AAA first-team all-state selection three years running. (Big bonus points if you know the other: Ross McHenry, 1920-22.)
WVU has the commitment. But that hasn?t stopped Notre Dame from dropping an offer on the table. Or Florida State. Or Ohio State. Or Marshall. Or Florida. Or Alabama. Or Vanderbilt and Ohio University.
?Josh gave his verbal [commitment] at the beginning of [last] season,?? Buttrey said. ?But he?s still listening. He?ll still take his five visits. He?s still drawing a lot of attention, more than anyone I?ve ever seen.??
The hitch is apparently the decision of offensive line coach Rick Trickett to move from WVU to Florida State. Also,Ohio State has a shot because of Jenkins? friendship with Michael Brewster, an Orlando, Fla., lineman set to become a Buckeye. In the end, though, Jenkins is expected to stick with the Mountaineers.

The most recent Scout article from the WVU affiliate also said pretty mich the same thing, FWIW...not that I believe either of them. OSU and FSU also have a legit shot at Josh.

He really seemed to enjoy himself at the game today, I also do believe it was a brother that was with him, but he looked like could be a frosh or so and he was a pretty big kid as well...

I love how yet another big prospect mentions wanting to hang out again with our new recruiting coordinator ...seriously, Brewster is everywhere.
