MORGANTOWN - With Thursday night's clash with Big XII opponent Colorado University still in doubt, second-year West Virginia University head football coach Bill Stewart put the game's outcome in the hands of running back Noel Devine and a young offensive line that still was coming into its own.
Those decisions were just fine with former Parkersburg High School All-American Josh Jenkins, a sophomore starter at left guard.
"Noel is a special kind of running back," Jenkins explained following WVU's 35-24 win over the Buffaloes. "When coach Stew came over and told us that we were going to run the football right at them, it made us (the offensive line) feel like he had the confidence in us that we could get the job done and we didn't want to let him, or the team, down."
A feat Jenkins and the rest of the 'front five' accomplished when the Mountaineers put together a 14-play, 69-yard drive that not only ate up nearly seven minutes off the clock, but concluded with a Ryan Clarke 1-yard touchdown plunge to give the old gold and blue a 27-17 advantage.
