I don't think its just a coincidence that when the staff misses on two players who played positions that wern't a need in this class, a kid who plays another non need position finally gets his offer. No knock on Woods if he is coachable at all he has a bright future he's very athetically gifted.

The McCarthy and Koger committments... and the glowing remarks about Auburn.. in addition to the planned trips to UF and Bama... I think pushed OSU to offer...

I think they feared that he was gonna get a little too comfortable with the SEC schools if they kept holding out.. Just my opinion

His offer happening immediately on the heels of Koger verballing to Michigan sent a flag up with me, too, but I think grade concerns were the main delay...I think D.J. was going to get his offer anyway once he showed the staff he was not going to be an academic concern, and Koger's verbal simply hastened the process.

Yeah, I suppose that your argument makes sense - the Ohio State staff is known for recruiting kids at "non need positions", so I guess that when a "non need" tight end prospect commits somewhere else, then JT will just toss out an offer to a "non need" cornerback instead.

So since we missed on a safety and TE target, we decided to go for a CB/WR one instead? Makes sense.....

Off topic (slightly) -- I do not understand where everyone is getting that TE is not a position of need for this class. As a RS freshman or true sophomore, any TE signed in this class would have a senior (Ballard) and junior (Miller) to battle for playing time.

Okay, then how about they missed a kid in the speed catergory, so they offered another. I think people are reading way too much into what I said. More likely, the Buckeye staff realized that D.J. was suddenly becoming a "hot" prospect and didn't want to be left on the outside looking in. Hence, the offer before the grades.

Perhaps the reason that D.J. is planning a December commitment is to see how his grades are progressing through the first grading period (i.e., to determine whether he can pass OSU's admissions). Just a thought....

I said this before and apparently it did not sink in...it is my understanding that the Woods offer had NOTHING to do with Koger and McCarthy...the timing of the offer had more to do with him picking up offers at every stop he has made and showing a real desire to do better in the classroom by acing his summer school course. So it doesn't really matter if you are "buying" the grades issue and you think the staff was slow-playing Woods just no one is selling it...it just ain't true.
