I dont really agree. OSU offered Woods as a CB where-as pretty much everyone else was after him as a WR (Nebraska, the SEC schools, Penn State). While Woods said he'd play "any position" after OSU offered him as a CB I'd say theres really no doubt that he felt he was a WR (and we all know how a WR feels about switching to DB). In the end he decided to go where he felt he had an opportunity to shine at WR, which OSU just didn't offer. |

Hey gang,
I just read through this thread after hearing about Nebraska getting DJ.
I was so impressed with the level of discourse in this thread I felt compelled to register just so I could say OSU has some of the best fans in the country.  You often hear that of NU's fans and, after living in Cincinnati for a couple of years, seeing MU/ OSU and now in Minnesota where I've seen OSU against the gophers, I'd say you all are a fine example of why college football is the best sport on the planet.
Will DJ be great for us? Who knows... if I had a dime for every promising recruit never heard from again... well...
Best wishes to all of you in the coming season and here's to hoping that two of the most-storied teams in football will be able to meet up on the turf soon.

Well, Ohio State offered Anthony Gonzalez and Ted Ginn, Jr. as CB's, and both of them had "decent" careers after making the switch to WR. |

Nebraska has some of the best fans in all of college football. I'm sure they will enjoy D. J. ! We can probably expect a visit or two.

Well, it sounds like D.J. had his mind made up even before he received his Buckeye offer, and that his second trip to Nebraska was merely to "seal the deal", so to speak.
Then why did Woods want an Ohio State offer? I don't know. Maybe he didn't want one. Maybe all the talk about "how special it would be" was merely for the benefit of the fans and the media. I mean, really, would you rather that he had said in interviews that "Ohio State isn't special, and I don't care whether they offer me, because I'm not even considering them." How "unclassy" would that have been...? Would we fans now have a higher opinion of D.J. if he had displayed that sort of attitude right from the start?
Was D.J. a little bent out of shape because Ohio State didn't offer sooner? Perhaps. But I really don't think that he deliberately went through a charade just to "spurn" Ohio State. If that were his intention, then he would have dragged the drama out a lot longer than he did. As it was, the Nebraska rumors surfaced last week, and days later he was a 'Husker.
Did D.J. make a good choice? I don't know, but I truly believe that all Ohio kids should at least take a good, hard look at Ohio State before committing elsewhere, as "being a Buckeye" really does mean something after one leaves campus. But I suppose that "being a 'Husker" means a lot, too, if Nebraska is where one really wants to be.... | |
