But no, it's not a diss to you guys. It's because I know Floyd will be criminally misused and ND's coaching staff is so brutal, they won't know what to do with him. At Ohio State, this kid would have been nasty. At ND, he'll probably be mediocre, though that's not his fault.

Cretin-Derham Hall's Michael Floyd said he won't make any more recruiting visits.

Cretin-Derham Hall star wide receiver Michael Floyd said he didn't go to Notre Dame over the weekend intending to give a verbal commitment. But after spending two days around the team, Floyd made that decision Sunday afternoon.

"I just got that feeling that Notre Dame was the place I wanted to be," Floyd said. He said he planned on contacting other schools recruiting him, including the Gophers, to let them know his decision.

"This is it," he said. "I'm not going to take any more visits."

I hope he does well, but as someone else mentioned, you can never know what a kid is going to decide until after the decision is made, and even then, it's not set in stone (re: Carufel).

Yes, as usual you have people claiming that we cooled on him and that our WR class was "full" and that he cooled on us after we had a recent commit and he feared he wouldn't play. I'm sure playing time comes into the equation, but it just seems like here was a guy who always had ND in his head, and we just couldn't overcome that. Hence we never even got a visit. Oh well. We got our share of good ones and then some. Shame to miss on Mike, but we'll just have to eek out our livin' as best we can

I mean I know one of the first trips could seem like it was the perfect place for you, but there's no way you can make a fair comparison without giving all of them a shot.

This is something less usual. But you would have to put 2 and 2 together from 2 different strains.

For frustrated fans, I guess it really comes down to at what point does the marginal utility of having another wideout becomes less than the marginal utility of having another DL or OL. I think having three WR commitments (possibly four with Scott) pretty much does it.

Personally, I don't want a kid who expects to be given a position or playing time. If he doesn't have enough intestinal fortitude to compete for a position with people that are mentally and athletically his peers; then by all means, go play for Weis. That way you'll get to play for a coach that does extremely well on not accepting personal responsibility.

Rivals5: Impact freshmen

Michael Floyd, WR, St.Paul (Minn.) Cretin-Derham Hall (Notre Dame)

Not many high school receivers can say they've had the career Floyd has. In the last two seasons alone, he has caught 122 passes for 2,487 yards and 32 touchdowns. Floyd followed that up with a great week of practice at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, showing that not only does he have great hands and body control, but he also possesses the ability to beat defensive backs deep. Then his week of practice translated into four catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns in the game. Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis is looking for playmakers on offense and he may have found one that can contribute right away. So don't be surprised if Floyd cracks the starting lineup at some point during the season.
