The three remaining top in-state recruits who haven't committed to the Gophers have spent or will spend time at Tim Brewster's summer football camp this week. Cretin-Derham Hall wide receiver Michael Floyd, a top-100 player according to some recruiting services, and his mother had an unofficial visit with Brewster on Tuesday. Floyd will spend a day at Brewster's camp later this week.

Cretin Derham-Hall's potential All-America wide receiver gets no special treatment at home. He would prefer that at college, too. That's why he's taking a proactive approach in picking a college to further his education and promising football career.
Floyd was expected to be accompanied today by his mother, Theresa Romero, and Cretin offensive line coach Andy Bishoff for the start of a road trip that will take the group to four major colleges in six days.
"I want to learn more about the schools that are on my final list before I decide on official visits," Floyd said Wednesday. "I want to know what's real and what isn't."
Floyd, one of the nation's top recruits in the class of 2008, has narrowed his choices to seven schools - Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Wisconsin, his first stop Wednesday among the four unofficial visits.

Wedding party helps Irish recruit

Cretin-Derham Hall (Minn.) receiver Michael Floyd was at Notre Dame as part of a summer unofficial visits tour with his mother. When he stepped into the Irish's football stadium, he encountered some Notre Dame alumni who had paid about $3,000 to have a wedding picture taken there. The wedding party noticed Floyd and began cheering and clapping, and pleading with him to play for Notre Dame.

I get the feeling that these might be pretty much in order, though I could see Minnesota making a move. If Brewster is at least able to have a solid season and gets the community to believe, he could be able to get the bigtime local kid to stay home. Similar to what Schiano was able to do with Anthony Davis last year. He'll have a much tougher time though as it took Schiano quite a while to get Rutgers on track.

The Gophers are doing all they can to recruit Michael Floyd, but it's a formidable task.

Saturday, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound wide receiver, who will be a senior at Cretin-Derham Hall in the fall, was at Notre Dame as part of a summer unofficial visits tour with his mother. When he stepped into the Irish's football stadium, he encountered some Notre Dame alumni who had paid about $3,000 to have a wedding picture taken there.

The wedding party noticed Floyd and began cheering and clapping, and pleading with him to play for Notre Dame.

Floyd, who was working out at the Irish summer camp Monday, began his tour by visiting the Gophers, then drove with Cretin-Derham Hall dean of students/assistant football coach Andy Bischoff to visit Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame.

He was making the rounds on unofficials with his Mom. Reading between the lines I find it doubtful he would go all the way to Gainesville for college....that's a long way for Mom to drive every weekend.

Everyone that made his top 7 or whatever was a school from the Midwest except for Florida. He and his family want him to stay close to home, and the only way I see him leaving for the South is if Florida is worlds ahead of the other schools... I think ultimately comes down to OSU and ND.

Gophers fall on Floyd's list after unofficial visit

Michael Floyd Cretin-Derham Hall wide receiver Michael Floyd, considered the state's best high school recruit, said the University of Minnesota has "dropped a notch" on his list after a disappointing unofficial visit to the campus last month.

Expressing concern about the "atmosphere" and about the talent level of the defensive backs who would challenge him in practice at Minnesota, Floyd told the Pioneer Press today that his top four choices are Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

Minnesota, he said, is in the second tier with Iowa and Wisconsin.

Floyd, who also took unofficial visits last month to Wisconsin, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State, said, "It was just so different when I went to those places. It wasn't what I expected at the U. I didn't like some of the people I met. Some people said they really wanted me to come. Other people I met just seem to be saying it."

As for the defensive backs, Floyd said, "I'm looking for more competition, people that can make me better. I want to go up against better DBs in practice everyday."
