![]() For the context of your argument though, I don't see how Chambers would count in a discussion of Glenville leftovers when he was not there during his recruitment. Anyway, rep given for the tidbit and back to Donnie... Last edited by osugrad21; 06-17-2007 at 06:27 PM. |

A question for the BPRT that somewhat relates to Fletcher. When JT first took over, we heard about a desire/preference for taller corners. I am curious as to which DB coach over the years has had the greatest influence: Dantonio? Tucker? Beckman? Or was this one of JT's things? It will be interesting to see the direction that the recruiting of corners takes with Taver Johnson's hire. How does this relate to Fletcher? He looks every bit of 6 feet in those photos, a rangy type of athlete, and he's from Glenville. Dependent on what happens with some other guys, and I'm not talking DB's, Fletcher may well be someone we are discussing in December/January.

I'm obviously not part of the BPRT, but form my point of view, the preference for bigger corners is more of a necessity for our style of defense than any single coach's preference. We always have a safety deep and generally do not ask our corners to play a lot of man to man. However, we do require the corners to be very involved in stopping the run game and going up and making tackles on screens, etc. So man to man coverage skills are not quite as important in our system, but tough, sure tacklers are at a premium.
It seems then that there will be a strong preference for physical corners in recruiting and its possible that we will have guys that might be safeties in some systems (Dustin Fox for example) that are perfect for what we look for in a CB. Obviously, bigger guys are generally more physical and the majority of our CBs have been at least 5'11. But, we wouldn't turn away a guy like Antoine Winfield just because he's short (James Scott is a good example). And we won't take a guy with good height who isn't physical (Kyle Jefferson?). The perfect guys for our system seem to be the guys who are S/CB tweeners like Donte Whitner, Eugene Clifford, Kurt Coleman, Dustin Fox, Malcolm Jenkins and guys like that who can cover and tackle. |

I think tlinc is putting in an app to join the BPRT...
![]() Great answer and I couldn't agree more...this staffs loves versatility. Some may call that a fancy word for 'tweeners. but obviously when there are thousands of high school kids to choose from I think the staff is always looking for some very specific. I think Tucker's ideaology included the notion of having bigger corners to defends bigger receivers...the Charles Rogers of the world as it were at that time. |

Scout - 07/25/07
Fletcher's final five are Michigan State, North Carolina State, Boston College, Iowa, and Nebraska; he will probably take official visits to all five schools. |
