Adams and Brewster and what they could mean to OSU football...

There is a lot of speculation about the supposed "Block O", which is starting to look a lot like "Block O + 1", however, I want to start a thread about what it could mean to the future of the program.....

Something very similar happened with the basketball team two years ago when Daequan Cook verballed to OSU and got in a bunch of ears about joining him at OSU.Then David Lighty verballed, and then maybe the two most important recruits in OSU basketball history....and we all know what happened after that...just look at the headline on this site!!

My comparison is of Brewster and Adams to Cook. Now I know there are differences like the fact they all played together...but if you think about it...all these guys see one another going thru the camp circuit, junior days, all-star games, etc. And yes I know it is too early to really start to believe this could all happen, but hey, speculation is fun, admit it!!

So here is to hoping that this recruiting momentum takes on the same life that the 06 basketball class created for basketball. One thing is for sure, the staff will have to commit to capitalizing on it!!

Imagine OSU bringing in the top tier talent from Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia all in the same year!!! I really do think the effects could last for years to come......

Now....who agrees?

EDIT: the main reason I started this thread is because this discussion is pretty much going on in all of the threads pertaining to recruits that might be part of the "Block O" phenomenon

I was recently reading a book about different OSU players' greatest game during their time at Ohio State. 2-5 pages on about 40 different players...some were great, some were OK...not a bad book, but would be gawd awful to the non-OSU fan.

Anyway, one of Woody's super sophs that helped win the 1968 title made an offhand comment about the recruiting process of that group. The player mentioned seeing the other members of that class at airports, award banquets, all star games, etc and how amazing it was to see those guys and hear each of them talk about heading to OSU. It just picked up a momentum all of it's own.

It sounds like a similar dynamic may be at work with next year's class.

Those kids that arrived at OSU in '67 (sat a year, freshman couldn't play back then) and were a force. That group started the ball rolling for a tremendous OSU run beginning in '68 and stretching into the mid '70's.

Not only did that class and the momentum it created for the program boost OSU football to new heights, it restored Woody's luster and really cemented his legacy.

Oh, what JT might well accomplish.

It would certainly refute Herbstreits theory/opinion that the loss to Florida will set us back ten years in recruiting.

The football team is not in need of a big talent upgrade the way the basketball team was. It's going to be a very small class so no hope of bringing in all kinds of talent. I do agree that the staff would have to go along with Brewsters guys for the most part, and they are unlikely to agree with Mike on many of the kids. Take for example, Jamal Womble. Mike recruited him but the staff is very luke warm for reasons like need, ohio talent, etc.

The one difference is football is more of a crap shoot, the Oden, Cook and Conley class will always be Oden, Cook and Conley. While by 2006 the Clarett, Zwick class became the Smith, Datish class. You also seem to have more D'Andrea's in football.

That's not what he said...

The losses to UF/USC set us back ten years with SEC/Pac10(USC) homers. He was arguing that they have no respect for the value of winning the big ten. Given the attitude I've seen on various boards after the Rose/Fiesta, I can't say I disagree with his take on their mentality. (Not all SEC/Pac10 fans think this way, GatorsareGood , but this mindset is not that rare)
