Anthony attended the Arkansas game this weekend and came away impressed. He will not play basketball this year and is hearing from Ohio State, Indiana, Purdue, Cincinnati, Akron, Marshall, North Carolina State, and Purdue.

Portland Trail Blazers' center Greg Oden says his "little" brother Anthony might play football at Oregon State.

Anthony Oden, a 6-foot-8, 295-pound offensive tackle/tight end from Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, has numerous scholarship offers but has said he will make only three official visits -- to Arkansas, Indiana and Oregon State.

"He is talking to Oregon State," Greg Oden said Wednesday night. "I don't know how far along they are (in the process). I think he sent off tape and they are looking at him. He would like to come out here and be close to me."

Could be a good thing for the Oden brothers. It is not always a good idea to follow your brother around (just ask Marcus Vick) but Greg seems like such a level headed, intelligent, hard working young man that he would probably be a good influence on on Anthony.

Lawrence North senior Anthony Oden, younger brother of former Wildcats basketball star Greg Oden, said he will play football at Arkansas.
At 6-8, 295 pounds, Anthony Oden played football as a junior at Dayton (Ohio) Dunbar and as a senior with the Wildcats. He is being recruited as an offensive tackle after playing both tight end and tackle at Lawrence North.
"It's a blessing to have the opportunity to play in the (Southeastern Conference) after just two years of high school football," Oden said. "During my unofficial visit, I liked how everything is like a family there. . . . I'm excited."

On the practice field at Hargrave's bucolic Chatham, Va., campus, Newsome must dodge defensive end Toby Jackson, a 6-foot-4, 244-pound Georgia signee who is expected to enroll at Hargrave. Newsome also may line up behind offensive tackle Anthony Oden, a 2008 Arkansas signee who is the 6-10, 300-pound younger brother of Portland TrailBlazers center Greg Oden.

Didn't know Anthony was going to Hargrave. Sounds like he's done some growing too.

The younger brother of Portland Trailblazer Greg Oden stands 6-foot-8, weighs 328 pounds and played tight end in high school in Indianapolis. "This is part of the process as we build the foundation for our program," Petrino said. "Recruiting is certainly a big part of that. One thing we try to say as a staff is for us to beat them on the field we need to compete and beat them in the recruiting process."

FAYETTEVILLE ? The latest in a series profiling new additions to the Arkansas football team for 2009.

Arkansas? football coaches are always willing to give extra looks to athletic prospects whose background includes playing high school basketball and football.

That, in part, is what drew the staff to Anthony Oden, an offensive tackle so physically imposing and athletic that Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino has suggested he could play as a freshman.

Oden was offered scholarships to play college basketball and follow inthe footsteps of his brother Greg. A 7-foot center, Greg Oden, in his one season of college basketball, led Ohio State to the championship game of the NCAA Tournament ...

Oden up and running

The pressure to win football games in the Southeastern Conference is perhaps unmatched, so if a coach has a 6-foot-8, 328-pound freshman offensive tackle with star potential hanging around, it?s probably a good idea to use him.

This perhaps is the thinking at Arkansas, where Anthony Oden (Dunbar) is carving out an identity for himself beyond simply being the brother of NBA 7-footer and former Ohio State standout Greg Oden.

Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino said Oden definitely will play today at Alabama in the Razorbacks? most important game to date. And judging by the recruiting fuss that was made over him, he should be seizing a permanent job before long.

Oden, who turns 20 in a few days, also drew interest from Indiana, Oregon State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Purdue, North Carolina State and Kansas. He spent last season at Hargrave Military Academy getting his academic game in shape and helping the football team go 10-1.

Oden?s local connection came about when his mother moved here to be closer to Greg, who played one season at OSU before the Portland Trail Blazers made him the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft. Anthony spent his junior year at Dunbar before moving back to Indianapolis.
