Just doesn't make sense to me that they would be there just to watch guys that committed 5 months ago, when there are two players on the team that they have been watching, had to there Sr. camps, that are having tremendous seasons, and have not made a decision. They are NOT recruiting Jake and Mike anymore. I would think they would not waste time with finished business. TP has not committed so they are still looking at the "other" QBs that are out there. Just so happens when the Bucks are at home they don't have to travel far to see an uncommitted QB and LB. One can also sit in the stands and see who coaches watch in pregame when they are on the sidelines. Last I checked if someone is watching the QBs and LBs warm up and go thru drills, they're probably looking at someone in those drills.

I don't KNOW who they are watching, but I think it is cool that so many of the kids are getting looks. I like to watch the coaches and scouts who are there and try to get an educated guess on who they are checking out. It's a compliment to Coach Crabtree and the entire program that colleges know what kind of talent they usually have at Coffman.

From what I know the staff feels pretty good about their chances with Pryor, but it is good to know they are looking at other options should he opt to go elsewhere. I agree with the earlier poster that Gray is no longer an option...that was my mistake and confirmed that with a couple of sources. Beyond that, I surely don't doubt that the staff is watching guys like Zack and Steve when they are at Coffman games. Glad to see all those kids are continuing to play at a high level. My info was the staff was going all or nothing on Pryor, leading me to believe that Zack was not an option, but like you said, you never know...

Wad, No doubt they have put all of their eggs, along with many other schools in Pryor's basket. No doubt about that and I never meant to insinuate anything else. Only that JT and the boys are a pretty thorough group and are still evaluating other players at all positions. That is recruiting, as you are well aware of. Go after your top guys at every positon with everything you've got. When the dust settles and you missed on some of them, then you see how good you are at recruiting. Championships aren't always won with the blue chip prospects, but by the "diamonds in the rough" or "sleepers" that you discover along the way trying to fill up the roster with your 2nd and 3rd choices at certain positions. Chances are they get TP, but there are a lot of rumblings lately. Just read yesterday he had his list down to 7 or 8. Three weeks ago it was 3. Interesting.

I do find it interesting that JT has put all the eggs in one basket on a guy like Pryor. If you look back all the way to his YSU days, he has never had a "superstar" QB. I know you all just threw up in your mouths a bit, yes he had Troy. But Troy, though better, was very much like his other QBs. He managed the game, made plays when he had to, and limited mistakes. Maybe he could have done much more, but a JT QB is an extension of JT. Conservative, vanilla, detailed, and well, boring. TP seems to be the opposite of that image. He's a bit flashy, a little more Hollywood than your typical JT guy. Time will tell. It will definately be an interesting match. That point being made, like Quinn, Stoudt may not a good fit at OSU. He'll be looking for more of a pass oriented offense I would think, and that doesn't seem to be JT's MO.

Completely disagree.

I am sure that the coaching staff is pointing to Troy Smith while recruiting Pryor, showing that we know what to do with a QB that is a dynamic, athletic, stud playmaker. Troy (and the '06 Offense) was not at all "conservative, vanilla, or ...boring". Troy was only "better" in your eyes? He is the only Big Ten QB to win a Heisman Trophy...that's far beyond "better...but very much like his (Coach T's) other QBs.

Ray Isaac was a major "star" at YSU and that was part of his (and the YSU Trustee's) downfall.

Just curious, as you asked of WadC concerning "inside" knowledge, have you ever met Pryor or are these your personal thoughts on his "Hollywood" attitude?

Ray Issac made some questionable decisions (not unlike Troy) but I fault the people like Mickey Monus for letting that kind of stuff happen, although that is a discussion for another time and place...

Padraig and OSUgrad, Like so many on the planet you take things too literally, or maybe I should be more clear. What I meant about Troy and I'll say it about Isaac too, is that Tressel is not going to make a superstar out of his QBs. He is going to make them very efficient in HIS offense, not theirs. Yes Troy is the only Big Ten QB to win the Heisman, but he could have put up staggering numbers with his talent and the weapons he had. But JT likes a balance and he got it. It is his style and I've said a million times that it works for him. He played within the Tressel and was obviously a star. But neither he nor Ray Isaac were the classic superstar coming out of high school. For God's sake, Isaac went to YSU, and Troy was under the radar too. Have we forgotten that he was not regarded nearly as high as Zwick, who proved how much creedance we should give the scouting services.

That is my point. Usually JT (and OSU historically)recruits the blue collar QB, who comes with no visions of rewriting the record book. He comes to be THE OSU QB and be just another player on a great team. I am speaking "gererally" about the norms of JT. I mean no disrespect toward any OSU or YSU QB. Ray played great for YSU, he was a great leader field general which is what JT likes. He was not a great QB.

Troy and Zwick were both Elite 11 Quarterbacks. 2 out of 11 kids in the nation invited to an 'elite' QB camp in one recruiting class hardly seems to me like the "hey, come to OSU and don't make any mistakes at the position and our defense and running game will do the rest" sell.

Mark Sanchez And Xavier Lee were both recruited by Tressel, and if I recall correctly, both considered coming to tOSU very strongly. And both were hardly considered your 'typical, blue collar QB'.

I obviously don't think Tressel ever tells any athlete, "We'll build our Program around you." All have to be willing to be part of this Team, but I also don't think he ever tells QB recruits, "did you see how we won a National Championship with Craig Krenzel? That's what I want."

P.S.

Troy was a Superstar, in a Jim Tressel Offense, and I credit a huge part of Troy's developement and success to Coach Tressel.

But in his Heisman Season he completed 14 of 32 passes for 344 yards (although 25 yards per completion is immpressive) & 6 TDs, while rushing for 924 yards (setting a new Big Ten rushing record), 5.2 per carry and 12 TDs, & I believe he was our kicker and played D too, so you know...

He also likes BG a lot and Pitt has made him their #1 QB recruit. There are a couple of other schools that are around it too, I am not sure that OSU is in the picture. OSU comes to Coffman games to watch Mike and Jake.

I get your points guys, it's been fun. OSUgrad, I'm really not biased, I think I've just been trying to discuss the recruiting process and what "my opinions" are. I do believe that is what these forums are about.

My point was not that they don't recruit "blue chip" guys or highly ranked guys (and who cares about rankings from the scout services). One final attempt, they usually don't get the elite "passing" types like the Mannings, Quinn, Marino, etc.

They do get great athletes without a doubt. I have been trying to differentiate between "great athletes" and "great passing QBs".

Padraig, your comment about Krenzle, he is the poster boy for the QB I've been trying to describe for JTs style. And I've said a million times that that is OK. JT has proven to win "his way" with "his kind of guys". Whether he gets a Krenzle or a Smith, both great in their own right, he will win. I'm just saying he doesn't go after or he doesn't get, the Manning types. It doesn't fit his style or theirs.
