- Speaking of getting guys to join The U, a close friend of mine in the business is convinced Hialeah defensive end/tackle Corey Liuget will end up switching his commitment from Illinois to the Canes before it is all said and done. My friend, who is doing a story on Liuget for FloridaFB.com, told me Liuget told him he's very excited about the possibility of playing next to Forston and on the Canes defense. What's holding Liuget back? His family wants Liuget to leave South Florida and experience something different

Ron Zook has a special ability to treat people from all walks of life equally and with respect. He is especially beloved by minorities who can recognize disingenuous phoneys a mile away. Since a large number of the best football players are minorities, Coach Zook has an advantage in recruiting.

Oct. 20 news flash: Defensive End Corey Liuget Commits To Illinois.
|
Quote:
Unfortunately for Illinois fans, little about that statement may end up being true.
First of all, Liuget has eaten himself out of being a defensive end. After gaining 70 pounds in the past year, Liuget now projects as a 6-3 1/2, 285-pound defensive tackle.
How did he do it? Was it steroids?
"No way," Liuget said of the steroids question. "You can test me right now!"
Liuget said he gained the weight by lifting weights and eating a ton, especially Cuban food.
As for the second half of that October news flash, Liuget sounds more and more like a Hurricane in waiting. The Hialeah High star said he will announce his final decision on National Signing Day.
"It's between Illinois and Miami," Liuget said. "I had a great time at Illinois with the coaches, the players, the girls ... But Miami is the team I grew up on. That's my heart and soul right there."
Liuget, a second-team All-County player as a junior, is a lock to make first-team this time around. He recorded 67 tackles and 11 sacks this season and returned an interception for a touchdown.
One of his sack victims was Miami Northwestern superstar Jacory Harris, who was knocked out of the game briefly by Liuget's hit.
Harris and Liuget could end up teammates at Miami. Liuget's former Hialeah teammate Adewale Ojomo is already a Hurricanes defensive lineman.
Indeed, all signs seem to point to the Hurricanes - except that Liuget's parents want their son to get out and see the country. That's why Liuget took trips to Illinois, LSU, Florida State, Ohio State and Rutgers. He also got offers from Georgia, South Carolina and Central Florida.
"It's going to be a tough decision," said Liuget, who plans to study criminology and business management. "My future and my family's future are on the line."

How can you be an OSU fan and spell Gholston like that? I'm a UM fan and I know what it's like.

I think this helps confirm what I posted in the cbf40 thread about the staff being focused on Wells...I just don't think there is enough mutual interest in Liuget at this point as it compares to Keith Wells.

Further confirmation...Liuget is no longer visiting this weekend...staff is clearly focused on finishing with Pryor, Jenkins, Wells and possibly Harris...
