They gotta build up the hype machine as much as they can. If their analysts talk all week about how much they think OSU is going to get trampled (*cough* Mark May douchebag *cough*), the game loses its hype and people don't feel like they have to tune in because they feel like its going to be a blowout.

I just about called Jim Rome a tool but then realized that would be an insult to Trev Alberts.

The Dash is still trying to get a grip on an extra-long extra point in Seattle. And the field goals attempted from short range in Gainesville and long range in El Paso. And the fact that ESPN no longer has the world's most prominent Holtz (sorry, Lou) or the world's most prominent Skip (sorry, Bayless). Don't look now, but Skip Holtz (2) has trumped you both, on his way to becoming the hottest coach in college football.
But more on all that in a bit. First, it's time to get down to Game of the Year business.

Myth Busting: Ohio State vs. USC

It's a wonderful thing when two lavishly talented programs with abundantly rich traditions from proudly established conferences meet in an endlessly hyped game played before two massively smug fan bases. For one thing, it gives sports writers a chance to air out all the adverbs and adjectives in the playbook.
But it's especially enjoyable in the current gridworld climate, in which juicy intersectional games are rarer than a Nick Saban smile. For too many teams, that 12th game added to the schedule was just one more way to get FIU, Eastern Illinois or Northern Colorado on the schedule.
So bravo to the Buckeyes and Trojans for gettin' it on. Now on to the breakdown. The Dash presents a few myths and realities to ponder before Saturday in the Coliseum (ABC, 8 p.m. ET):

LA Times: Parking alternative for USC-Ohio State Game

Parking alternative for the USC-Ohio State Game

There will be a free shuttle for Saturday's (Sept. 13) USC-Ohio State football game for fans who park at Staples Center lots.

Parking will be $25 at Staples Center lots 5 (enter on 12th Street between Figueroa Street and Flower Street) and 11 (enter on Hope Street between 11th and 12th).

Shuttles will pick up fans at Flower Street and Pico Boulevard (near the Metro Blue Line station) and drop them off at the Coliseum at Exposition Boulevard and Kinzie Avenue (across from USC's Gate 2). Shuttles will start running from the Staples Center at noon and will stop running from the Coliseum an hour after the game's conclusion. Staples Center is about 2 miles north of the Coliseum.

Tailgating will not be allowed in the Staples Center parking lots.

The No. 1-ranked Trojans host the No. 5 Buckeyes at 5 p.m. The game is a sellout in the 93,607-seat Coliseum.

Every year that's brought up and every year it's laughed off......but honestly.....whoever the real best team in CFB is, can probably beat Oakland.

-Beanie told the staff he is ready to carry the ball 45 times.

It seems that we always play down to our opponents before big games that we win.

Last year we played poorly against Michigan State before our showdown with PSU, which we dominated. Looked like a completely differet team. Tough night road game too.
We also played poorly against Illinios before our game with Michigan. Out defense looked like it turned it up about 10 notches in that weeks time.
In 2006 we looked ugly on offense against a bad Illinois team before the Michigan 1 vs 2 game. And then our offense kicked butt in that game.
We let Garrett Wolfe rush for 171 yards and played down to a Northern Illinois team, right before we went and kicked the crap out of Texas.
In 2004 we played like crap and lost to Purdue before coming back and putting the smack down on a top 10 Michigan team.
And obviously in 2002 we struggle with a bad Illinois team before going on to beat Michigan in the most important game in The 'Shoe in decades.
In 2001 we lost the game before we went into Ann Arbor and finally beat Michigan.

These are just a few that I can remember under Tressel. Often we just don't play well before big games under Tressel. But then we go on and do play well the next week. This week won't be any different. The Buckeyes will look better than they have all year. USC is in for a big surprise if they think Ohio State is going to play like they are seeing on the OU game films.

Ray Small is always smiling. Talking about his own punt return for a touchdown, talking about the discipline he faced during the offseason for showing up late to class, Ohio State's junior receiver almost always exhibits the same facial expression.
He's not a player you'd expect to be calling out another team. That's not his style. Still isn't.
But his words have been read. Check any USC message board, and the OSU junior receiver is the Buckeye of most interest leading into Saturday's showdown.
How did this all happen?

To my fellow BP'ers, and especially to the visiting Trojan, I apologize. I let my emotions, and a bit' o' booze get the best of me. That's not how Buckeyes are supposed to act. I'm just frustrated with the lack of confidence on this board. I don't think I've ever seen so many Buckeyes feel so sure of a loss, especially on buckeyeplanet. It won't happen again.
